Astros target Jesus Lopez reportedly signed with Oakland for mid-six figures. https://twitter.com/Eli_DeGrateACE/status/352068961011105792 "@Eli_DeGrateACE: Nicaraguan SS prospect Jesus Lopez signs with The Oakland A's for a reported mid Six figure deal. #July2nd Lopez was 7 ranked intl prospect by kiley McDaniels of fox sports and #14 by BA.
Jesse Sanchez is an MLB.com writer. @JesseSanchezMLB: Switch-hitting catcher Jose Herrera (VZ), #7 on Top 30 int'l list, is nearing a deal worth an estimated $1M with AZ http://t.co/SQVefhueo9
Good list/summary from Astros County: http://www.astroscounty.com/2013/07/what-heck-is-july-2.html The top 2 guys we've been associated with appear to be headed elsewhere.

Rangers went into period with a ~$1.9 million pool. They have reportedly signed 4 players to deals worth ~5 million, including BA's 6th and 7th ranked players. They'll be be in the penalty range, but unlike in the draft, the penalties are not particularly severe for a team in the Rangers situation. They'll have to pay luxury tax on the overage and they'll be restricted to bonuses 250k and under next year. But, given where they'll finish in the standings, their pool next year will likely be small anyways. The rays had a somewhat similar strategy last year.

Basically guys are worth double to them. Crazy. Of course, the last time the Astros paid big for somebody, it turned into Ariel Ovando.
I think something was lost in translation on the original tweet. Teams can't trade bonus space purely for cash considerations. Player/s have to be exchanged. Regardless, the most the any team can acquire via trade in 50% of their original allotment, so the Rangers are well over their cap even if they acquired more. Speaking of trading for space, the Cubs just acquired more space in a trade with Baltimore. Look for them to use that on Eloy Jimenez.
I'm not really sure what this means. How did we end up in the Marmol trade? Bruce Miles @BruceMiles2112 1m #Cubs trade Marmol to Dodgers for RHP Matt Guerrier. Dodgers get Cubs' No. 4 intl slot. Cubs get Houston's 2, 3 slots for Ronald Torreyes
They could be seperate deals that happened at the same time? But from what I'm understanding we traded our 2,3 spots (what's this?) for Torreyea
Yes, my Cubs friend is texting me that we got Ronald Torreyes in exchange for those 2nd and 3rd slots. That's a lot of money, so we must like the Torreyes kid. I just googled him, and he's a 20 year old 2B in AA. Definitely young for his level, and although his slash line doesn't show a lot of power he does show up in this article.
Torreyes was the #13 prospect in the Reds system entering the 2012 season, according to Baseball America.
So we traded 780,000 of our internation money for torreyes? Thanks! He's a 20 year old 5'9" 2nd baseman in AA. He started off looking just like altuve with the batting average in the mid .300, but he has hit in the .260s in A+ and AA. I don't even know if we did get him for sure lol
Interesting...astros still have over 4 million left to spend on IFA. The thing that sticks out to me about Torreyes is his extremely low strike out rate. He has a 5.7% k rate this year and that's right along with his career averages.
