    What a beast.

Grant Hogue has quietly put on a very nice display of thievery as well. 26 steals with only 2 failed attempts in 41 games. If you extrapolate that out to 125 games (like Deshields), he would have 79 steals right now.

However, he's a corner outfield prospect showing no power at age 26 in high A. Not too much to get excited about.

Reillocity from crawfishboxes.com was at his last start and said he was grabbing his side in his last inning. He probably strained something and they shut him down.

hello everybody im new to this site and have been posting a little bit on here on the Minor League Promotion Spec thread and i am from Albany, NY and around me we have the Tri City Valleycats... so if anybody has questions about them feel free to ask them and i will do my best to answer them...

Now to the question about Velasquez i can answer this question... i have talked with him personally matter of fact i talked to him tonight... He hurt his Oblique and they are taking it very slowly and have shut him down for the rest of the regular season.... there is another 1 and 1/2 weeks left of the regular season and then the playoffs will start... He is expected to start one of the games in the postseason.... It could be Game 1 it could be 2 it all depends on when the deem him healthy and if its his day in the rotation...

I've known David for 10-12 years now. He's been a great pitcher in every level he's been in. Little League up til now. Too bad he couldn't get any run support last night.

Granted his batting avg has dropped to .213 but why in the world wouldn't you bat Nolan Fontana in the 2 hole EVERY GAME?! You know that he's going to get on base every game and has nice speed. I know they used him there earlier in the season but why stop now? Use the one thing he does well now for something productive!

Also, I don't know why this bothers me but it does...

    Saturday Stories

    Hooks goin' to the playoffs!!!

    Lexington death spiral nearly complete.

Tri-City: Division champs, still rolling everyone

    Greeneville now or never.

    Recap

OKC better hope they have some comeback magic in them, as a 4-1 loss to Iowa drops their elimination number to 3. They only had 4 hits in the game, with Jimmy Paredes having 2 of them, and Mike Hessman's RBI double in the 7th was the only tally for the Redhawks. Brett Oberholtzer was alright, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 7 in 6 2/3 innings. Garrett Mock allowed a 2-run homer to Diory Hernandez in the 8th.

Corpus clinched the 2nd-half division title in the Texas League's South division, and consequently, a playoff berth, by dispatching San Antonio 5-2. The Hooks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings by scoring 2 in each inning. Jake Goebbert had a 2-run homer in the 1st, his 8th of the season. After Enrique Hernandez doubled in the 2nd, Ben Orloff brought him home with a single. Orloff eventually stole 3rd and scored on an errant throw from San Antonio catcher Jason Hagerty. Austin Wates would provide the cherry in the 8th with a solo homer, his 7th of the year (he also has 1 in a GCL rehab assignment). Goebbert, Hernandez, and Wates all finished with 2 hits. Paul Clemens is regaining some steam, although ultimately, I believe he'll be a better asset out of the bullpen. In 6 innings, he allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Kevin Chapman allowed a run in the 8th (well, technically Jason Stoffel did, but that was Chapman's runner), and Stoffel got himself a 2-out infield single to stay perfect at the plate. He got a 4-out save (26), striking out 1.

Lancaster got pounded by Lake Elsinore 11-3, reducing their wild-card lead over the Storm to 1 game. Erik Castro went 2-4 with an RBI single, Jonathan Meyer had an RBI forceout, and Delino DeShields drew a bases-loaded walk. He walked twice, giving him 80 on the season. Tyson Perez allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Jorge De Leon gave up 4 in the 5th... whatever. Pat Urckfitz threw the next 3 1/3 and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Kenny Long got the last 2 outs in the top of the 9th, both strikeouts. He also allowed a hit.

Of the 14 outs that Long has recorded in Lancaster, 10 have been Ks. Between Tri-City and Lancaster, he is 1-1 with 3 saves and a 1.89 ERA. In 25 appearances (19 innings), he's allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked 7, and struck out 30. Opponents are hitting .115 off of him.

Lexington's downward spiral culminates in their elimination from South Atlantic League playoff contention, although I think they were probably eliminated a few days ago. They lost 1-0 in 10 innings to Charleston, their 10th straight loss. It was a pretty embarrassing night for the Legends at the plate, as they struck out 14 times. 6 guys struck out twice; Matt Duffy, who looks like he's breaking down, didn't. He still went 0-4, though. Chan-Jong Moon's double to lead off the bottom of the 1st was the Legends' only hit. Chris Epps and Nolan Fontana drew walks. Fontana has really worn down as the season has progressed. He went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts to drop his average to .213.

David Rollins had an excellent start, as he allowed 3 hits and struck out 10 Riverdogs over 7 2/3 shutout innings. Murilo Gouvea got the last out of the 8th, but before that, he issued a walk. Dayan Diaz threw a spotless 9th, but unfortunately, he blinked first in the 10th. He allowed a leadoff double to Dante Bichette, who was promptly erased at 3rd on a Casey Stevenson fielder's choice. But, Stevenson scored the lone tally all the way from 1st on Ali Castillo's double.

Rollins' start was good for a game score of 83. That is the 3rd-best score in the system this season, trailing only Jose Cisnero's CG 2-hit shutout for Corpus in Frisco on June 16, which got an 87 and Dan Minor's 1-hit, 1-walk, 11-strikeout effort for Greeneville on August 10 against Princeton, which was good for an 85. Rollins might not have the upside of Wojciechowski, Musgrove, or Comer, but he's a solid arm that could have some back-of-the-rotation upside. In the still-thin hiearchy of left-handed starters in the organization, I'd probably put Rollins 2nd behind Brett Oberholtzer. I feel that he might have a bit higher potential than Rob Rasmussen.

Tri-City already punched their ticket to the playoffs, but they're still laying waste to everyone in their path. They broke a 2-2 tie with Vermont and blew the game open with 5 in the bottom of the 6th on their way to a 9-2 win. As is the theme of their season, everyone contributed in their own way. Everyone had a hit and the pitching was tremendous. Let's go down the lineup first.

Catfish Elkins went 2-5 and got things started with a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the 1st, his 5th of the season. In the 2 spot, Tyler Heineman went 2-3 and scored twice. Preston Tucker went 3-5 with 2 runs scored, and he provided the biggest hit of the night, a grand slam in the 6th that pretty much sealed it for the ValleyCats. That was his 8th home run and his 34th, 35th, 36th, and 37th RBIs in his 32nd professional game. The 8 jacks puts Tucker in a 3-way tie for 3rd in the New York-Penn League despite playing in substantially fewer games than almost everyone else in the league. I'll be surprised if he starts in Lexington next year. At cleanup, Jesse Wierzbicki, who is apparently a better athlete than I initially thought, went 2-4 with an RBI single in the 5th and an RBI double in the 8th. He also added a steal, his 18th of the season (1 with Lexington). M.P. Cokinos went 2-5 with an RBI single in the 8th and stole his 1st base. Jean Carlos Batista had himself a 2-5 night, as he's certainly gonna be counted on to make contributions in the ValleyCats' playoff run. Jarrod McKinney went deep in the 6th, his 4th of the year. Ryan Dineen went 1-2 and walked twice. And finally, Neiko Johnson went 1-4 with a run scored.

Joe Bircher got the start for the ValleyCats, and in 5 innings, he allowed 2 unearned runs (both in the 5th) on 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. Jeremiah Meiners got the win in relief, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2 in 3 scoreless. John Neely finished it out, allowing a hit, a walk, and striking out the side in the 9th.

Greeneville was blasted by Danville 6-0. They are 2.5 behind Johnson City for 2nd place with 3 games to go. Win at all costs! And they have to hope that Danville can trip up the Cardinals. However, they have to take care of business with Bluefield too.

The Appy Astros were held to 3 hits in the game, with Carlos Correa having his customary double. Marc Wik and Brian Blasik had singles. Lance McCullers got knocked around in his 4 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits (2-run homer), walking 3 and striking out 6. Zach Dando gave up 1 more in the 6th. He and McCullers uncorked 2 wild pitches apiece. Andrew Walter walked 1 and fanned 3 in 2 hitless and scoreless, and Jordan Jankowski struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th.

The GCLstros had a 4-run 5th and beat the Nationals 5-2. Juan Santana went 2-4 with a 2-run single. Ydarqui Marte, Yonathan Mejia, and Darwin Rivera had RBI singles. Yoel Silfa went 2-3 and scored twice. Jordan Schafer went 1-2 to start off his rehab assignment. Raul Rivera went 6 innings and allowed 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and struck out 5. Alan Abreu and Ambiorix De Leon each threw a scoreless inning, and Gera Sanchez got his 2nd save, allowing a hit, a walk, and striking out 1.

The Academy had the remainder of their games rained out due to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, which knocked Haiti around a bit. But considering that the Dominican Republic also shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, the precautions weren't surprising. They finish their season with a record of 22-47, last in the DSL Boca Chica Northwest division. I may or may not create a thread with an assessment of the entire system.

Speaking of Teoscar Hernandez, he and birthday boy Justin Gominsky went back-to-back for Lexington. His was a 2-run shot after a Nolan Fontana double, and Gominsky followed suit. Lexington leads Charleston 3-0 in the 3rd, with Chris Devenski on the mound.

Surprised Hernandez skipped Greeneville and Tri City. I don't remember him putting up great numbers.
