I did not follow the Houston Rockets last year.

But judging by this current roster, I think Houston did a great job in the off season. The draft picks looks great. You now have "impact" center that most teams do not have. You have a PG knows the importance of breaking down a defense for others.

Since I didn't follow the Rockets last year in the shorten "strike" year, does this roster look like an improvement?

In terms of potential it is better but as of right now its about a wash. We have more young players with more upside.

I didn't really follow the Rockets last season but I am aware of what players most teams had.

I think Omer Asik is a Top 5 center NOW:

    Dwight Howard
    Andrew Bynum
    Al Jefferson
    Omer Asik
    Marcin Gortat

Since Chris Bosh thinks he's a center now, I'd put him in the top 5 too.

After a few pre-season games? I don't think so....plus you are missing a few other better centers such as Hibbert, M.Gasol, Chandler, and Cousins. And I'm not gonna lie, I fully expect Gortat's numbers to go down without Nash.

Umm, Greg Monroe, Demarcus Cousins, Tyson Chandler and Nikola Pekovic are a few I'd take over Asik and now Anthony Davis

Nailed it, Gortat is still better offensivly Asik, but Asik is still alot better on defense.

It just amazes me how clumsy Asik can be on the offense but at the same time very fluid on defense!

He's surely top 5 in the Southwest division.

    Marc Gasol
    Duncan
    Chris Kaman
    Asik
    Anthony Davis

Defensively Asik is top 5, or possibly even higher.
Offensively, he's one of the worst, which is saying something since there are so many offensively inept centers in the league.

BoyOBoy, Lmax7 loves to create controversies.
    :grin::grin:

When you see centers, you see their defensive skills. When you look at PG's, you only see offense. Tunnel vision??

Just a reminder....basketball is played at BOTH ends of the court.

Well, we only lost Lowry, Dragic, Lee, budinger, Scola, Dalembert, Camby and T-Will. This could be an 8-man rotation for a just out of play-offs NBA team. Actuall it was. And if Lowry + Martin were healthy, And Camby started the year with the rockets ... Rockets would've been in the playoffs

Hibbert is kinda overrated. M.Gasol is solid but I don't buy him as a truly special one. I already added Chandler to rank 4th. Cousins is not a Center. Both B.Lopez and Gortat is slight worse than Asik so I would ranked than lower:

    4th Chandler
    5th Asik
    6th Gortat
    7th M.Gasol
    8th B.Lopez/Hibbert

After they got rid of hand checking, PGs stopped playing defense and they were likewise allowed to become greater offensive threats. After they allowed zone D (i.e. stop Shaq), the role of centers on offense became more limited. Since perimeter players (aided by no hand checking) became the focal point of offense, centers had to become defensive stoppers.

This is why we focus on offense for PGs and defense for centers.

I never ever talking like I am only focusing on one side. Machado is not NBA ready. I knew that. Im just really confident on him. He is competitive and I like that even sometimes his talk sounds cocky. Asik can defend the paint better than anyone if he is not tired. His offense is improving I believe. So I am so high on him. I hope he proves me right.
