I really thought Gosling's performance in Blue Valentine was superior to that of Williams but the best actor nominations look stacked. I REALLY REALLY need to go see The Fighter.
12 nominations for The Kings Speech. Damn. EDIT: Let me also say that Inception is really getting snubbed again too. This is some bull****.
They need to go back to just five best picture nominees. Toy Story 3, True Grit, and The Kids are All Right are not worthy of the nomination.
Oooohhh! The fan boys are about to get keyboard gangster over the Nolan snub. Bwahahahaha!!! Javier Bardem and Jackie Weaver are the biggest and best deserved surprises.
I thought True Grit was better than Black Swan, and liked inception better than them both. Those are the only three best nominated movies I saw.
They need to combine Foreign language film and Best Film into one Category...... In the past year or so there has been some films outside of the States that was considered the best film of that year like City Of God, Old Boy, Pan's Labyrinth to name a few....
yes I am a Coen Bros homer but I think True Grit is one of their finest masterpieces and definitely deserving of the nomination. I know the Academy is all over their nutz as well but that's just because they are excellent filmmakers.
True Grit was a good movie, but after winning for No Country for Old Men, I doubt they will win this year. But, when you put 10 nominations up there, of course you will have some pretenders. I think the real contenders would be: Black Swan, Social Network, The King's Speech, and Inception (ironically, I've only seen 1 of these). And, really, I think it'll be either King's Speech or Social Network that wins. The others just don't have the right profile or buzz.
Based on movies I've seen: Picture: Inception Actor: Bridges, True Grit Actress: No comment Actor, supporting: Bale, The Fighter Actress, supporting: Steinfield, True Grit Screenplay, Adapted: True Grit Screenplay, Original: Inception I then think Inception should blow through most of the technical awards for sound editing, etc.
There's this recent pattern of oscar-whoring by movies released a month or two before nominations. It seems the voters are easily swayed by the fresh effect of movies they just watched compared to movies released six to eight months ago. Otherwise how do you explain True Grit getting more nominations than Inception? And Nolan getting snubbed for Director?
