Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this year's America's Championship serves as qualifying for the World Championships. And since we won gold at the Olympics, we probably automatically qualify for the WC.

That stands correct, Olympics winner automatically qualifies for WC, and WC winner will automatically quilify for the Olympics as well.

There are 4 wild cards for this world championship, and to be announced on Dec 13. Since the team Argentina is ranking #1 in FIBA right now, they should get a wild card if they are out of the top 4 in this tournament.

Scola didn´t play well. He had a decent stretch of 6 or 7 minutes during the 3rd quarter, though.
He sucked in the first half.

All Venezuela had to do was defend the pick and roll between Scola and Prigioni, which they did.

Argentina had no other weapon. If they could have played some defense, it would have been closer. But they didn´t even try.

We have to play MUCH better if we want to qualify. We laid an egg yesterday.

    Canada 78 : 33 Mexcio, end of 3rd.

I couldn't believe what I saw. Actually, I think Mexcio played well against Puerto Rico yesterday.

If they stink it up in this tournament, though wouldn't their FIBA ranking drop greatly?

We did auto qualify for 2010 in turkey, however countries usually send teams anyway. For instance, Turkey is playing in Eurobasket 2009 even though it is the host. I think it was a silly move by USA basketball to waste a summer where we could have sent our B team down for some experience. Instead we just had them play a blue v white scrimmage in las vegas for 3 days. It would have been a good way to see who is really committed to our program and who knows how to play fiba ball the right way.

    Scola has a tough start.

    Varejao made a 3 at the buzzer. 21: 13, end of 1st.
