this.....the current team needs time , I do hope we could keep Howard, Asik, Parsons, Harden, Beverley, Lin, Jones and Daniels for one more year

Why even mention T-Mac? All he did that season was eat up 23 mil that could have been spent elsewhere.

Yea...I don't understand it either. We played much better when he went out. Almost traded him for VC too if he hadn't announced his surgery.

If healthy (I hate those words :( ) 08-09 for sure. Yao always did very well against Howard. And I think Scola would have a field day with TJ/DM.

Although, I don't know if Battier would have been able to stay in front of Beardy much.

Despite the 14 team being more talented, that 09 team had two things that this 14 team desperately lacks: toughness and leadership. That's why I really think the Rockets should bring in guys like Lowry or Rondo.

Well, let's see. The 2009 Rockets team beat the Blazers in the first round in 6 games without home court advantage. The 2014 Rockets team lost to the Blazers in the first round in 6 games with home court advantage. That alone gives the edge to the 2009 squad.

Also, the 2009 team was tougher, executed better on offense and defense, and managed to win close games instead of giving them away. Had Yao and Deke been healthy, they may have won the whole thing.

Sorry to say it, but it's kinda sad that we're getting all sentimental about a team that just made it to the second round. I also hate to say it, but it seemed LA was toying with us that series. When they focused, they beat us pretty handily. I never liked those Laker teams - didn't really exhibit many admirable qualities.

That 2009 team would have crushed this one.

I am so done living in the past. What good does living in the past do? These rockets will magically play better?

    I'm ready for the present.

    tricky question, yes?

yao would have 50pts per game, in 4 straight victories before mchale realizes that he could front yao with a midget. =)

Can y'all imagine if Tracy had been healthy that year? We would have been insane.

The day our current team demonstrates even 50% of the heart of that 08-09 team, is the day they become a true contender.

    Yao would own Howard

Scola would use his bag of tricks against jones

Harden/parsons would get shut down against battier/artest

    Better bench

    09 would win.

could have, would have, should have,

kinda curious: can Asik guard prime Yao? or would a Howard-Asik double team work against Yao.? As far as I can remember, no team back then employed a twin tower combo against Yao at this talent level

Here we go with the IF factor. I'll take IF McGrady and Yao healthy Houston Rockets of any year all day and all night.

Remember Oden/Pryzbilla? Oden was actually healthy one season. Someone post a pic of Oden literally hugging Yao PLEASE?

We were simply a team with better balance. We are very top heavy now, which isn't surprising considering how we built our roster the past two years. I would take this lineup everyday over the 08-09 lineup, has much more potential.
