20 Years Ago: Rockets nearly trade Olajuwon to the Clippers

Wanna know how great Hakeem was? We passed on MICHAEL FREAKIN' JORDAN to draft him.....and no one really questions that - not even outside of Houston. What other player would people understand taking before Michael Jordan??

That's how great Hakeem was.

 

4:50 into the above video, Jordan says that he would take Hakeem if he had a choice of any player all-time (except for himself). Even Jordan knew how great Hakeem was.

I can't access the article and have no idea when it was published.

20 years ago from today would have been 1999, 4 years after we
won B2B titles and Hakeem's game was declining.
Everyone here is making like we would have never won any titles had traded him 20 years ago.

Was it published in 2013?

 

This aged very poorly.

 

same thing i thought. it was posted in 2012 which would have made the trade around 1992, two years before our eventual championship.
