This generally only applies to guys that need the ball in their hands to create. Lin and Harden are examples of these types of guys. Parsons and DMo are guys that can work well with or without ball. Harden can work without ball but is no where near as good as a player as when he has it.

To put it in perspective, the Jazz had to give up Deron Williams to get Derrick Favors, who wasn't exactly a rookie of the year candidate at the time. Robinson only has to be as good as Patterson to make the deal a win for the Rockets (younger, more time on rookie contract left). Anything above that is a bonus. Patterson basicly has to become an all star or near all star level player for it to be a significant loss for the Rockets even if Robinson is a complete bust.

No when Gasol is by himself in the paint he got raped everyone saw the 2008 nba finals. It makes sense what your talking about as far as what fits and what makes great chemistry on the court but hey when you talking about winning championships like Popovich said we need some nasty. That's why Gasol needed Bynum. As much as people say D Mo is so strong with his quotes and personality physically he's weak and it takes time for him to get stronger. In conclusion he may not get strong enough to do it without a big bully type center like Bynum or Howard. I hear Morey is trying to be a pioneer and reinvent the will but everything will come right back to the fact that you need that bully type brotha in the paint.

Yea those were some examples that had some merit but I could spend the rest of today compiling a list of great college players, drafted high and never made it past their rookie contract. I will be patient but the odds are he is what he is. A rebounding PF off the bench with a good motor but a questionable shooting range which may clog the paint making Lin and Harden's job harder for the next few years.

I just don't see how you can come to that conclusion halfway through his rookie year. Let's see how he plays on the Rockets first.

I don't think it was so much the getting of Derrick Favors as it was the getting value for Deron Williams, who the Jazz believed would likely leave anyway.

Ed Davis was one of the only good trade chips the Raptors had, so Memphis took him. It was not so much that they really liked him, indeed their GM has in the past not liked him.

If he is going to replace Randolph they will need to resign him because his deal will be up soon.

I understand your point, but I think you underestimate Asik a bit. Sure, the guy has little in the way of offense, maybe a understatement (although he's had his nights when his hands actually seemed to be coordinated on offense, at least a little), but the man is a load on defense, probably closer to 7'1" than 7 feet, and at least 280, IMO (CD said he was 295!). While not a big time shotblocker, he is a big time intimidator, ala Yao, and a rebound vacuum cleaner. He's needed a long 4 next to him that D's up, rebounds, and has an offensive game to make up for his shortcomings there, including the ability to hit the 3 from the corner (yeah, we all know that already). I think Donatas is that guy. Finally, we're going to see if he really is. I just hope people are patient with him. Robinson? He's a rookie who needs to have the patience Donuts has had.

My point is yes...he could turn this around...but the odds are that he is what he is...a better college player that was drafted high but didn't live up to expectations...that list is very long.

As good as the Kings are at killing a players game, Cousins, Evans and others have shown that glimpse of hope during their rookie year that you would expect to see every now and then from a good NBA player.

my point wasn't about Ed Davis. My point was that you can't make sweeping judgments about a player based off of limited play in his rookie year, especially big men, who actually take longer to develop.

They wouldn't have traded Williams for Favors if they thought they could keep Deron, but it's still the type of value a high pick has in the right circumstances, even when they haven't proven anything (The Jazz did also get 2 future first round picks as well as Devon Harris). Many people here were hoping we would tank a season to get a chance at a top 5 pick.

Instead we gave up Patrick Patterson, who has played 2 minutes, and 10 minutes for the Kings so far and doesn't look like he will be making an all star team any time soon, and Tony Douglas/Cole Aldrich who haven't played at all yet.

Unless Patterson becomes a star in the future, even if Robinson turns out to be a bust, at the very least we increased our cap space for next season and gave our other power forwards a chance to earn playing time. Robinson might not give us much more than Terrence Jones has so far this year, but giving up Patterson for the chance that Robinson is worthy of being a top 5 pick is certainly worth it to me.

I would normally agree since I was all for the rebuild, taking risks and getting a better pick but I think that team we had would have made the playoffs. They would have been very competitive in the playoffs even though rings would not be realistic yet. This would have been a huge boost to this young team to give them a little extra swagger for the future. Also we could have given up that ATL pick obligation on a subpar draft class which would allow us to make bigger trades down the road. All that is in question with this lineup and the Lakers making a run.

Though I will add that I think losing Morris to give DMo more time off the bench was a good move.

Hate to bring down the welcoming party. Been doing some background scouting on TRob and I gotta say I am not impressed with what I've seen out of this kid so far. Although he may be gifted physically, he does seem to have a lot of bad habits as far as defense and inconsistent effort. I've heard how Keith Smart had to constantly get on him about his defense and playing with more energy. I really hope I'm wrong about this kid but before we start celebrating how Morey heisted the Kings, I can't help but feel that maybe the Kings knew something we don't.

Check out some of these videos of Robinson playing against some other future draft picks during the adidas nations game. (#30 in blue shorts)

He seems to be getting outworked by some future D-Leaguers to the point where he almost doesn't look like he belongs on the court.
