A new smaller iPad is supposed to be announced. Other things rumored to be announced are the 13 inch MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display and a new iMac. This one will be streamed live on Apple's website. http://www.apple.com/apple-events/october-2012/ Starts at 12 PM CST.
I'm shocked that iPad 4 was also announced. Didn't expect that at all. I'm curious to hear about the SD/USB adapters.
iPad mini $329 (base) iPad 4 $499 (base) I'm surprised again - I expected the mini to be neutered (wifi only, 8GB only). LTE possible and 16GB base. Wow. But they do blow well past that magic $200-$250 price point most folks expected.
Wait, so 16:9 is a crappy aspect ratio? What's the iPhone? Also, the iPad 4 is just the iPad but they're still selling the iPad 2
They were doing a lot of comparisons to the Nexus 7...and they are pricing it $130 dollars higher. $329 for 16 GB is a pass. I like the size of it and the smaller bezel though.
You also have to consider that this is also semi-retiring the iPod Touch. I'm personally happy that they aren't putting out a mini bogged down with crummy specs. This device crushes what you would get in a Kindle Fire or Nexus.
Only Apple can price a tablet at $329 and still compete with the Nexus and Kindle Fire HD at $199. Aesthetics and brand name recognition will create another slam dunk. My home has an iPad 3 and a Kindle Fire and we're pretty happy with both for the price.
I see with the Fire but how does this crush the Nexus? Just looking at the hardware of the Nexus 7 it lines up pretty well with the mini and better in some areas.
Actually the pricing is only $80 more with comparable specs. iPad mini also has a camera in the back and front. Nexus only has a front facing one.
I would hardly say it "crushes" the nexus 7. I like apple products for their simplicity but the only edge that the ipad mini has over the nexus 7 is cellular data and camera specs. I wouldn't mind getting the ipad mini but as a long time apple user, I've hated having to deal with itunes. I ended up getting the nexus 7 a couple of months back and I don't regret it one bit.
