This is a first post Troll, people. His first post on cfnet under this user name. Besides, this thread is posted once a year. If you want to talk about it, go to a previous year thread...not this troll. <img src="http://rs2img.memecdn.com/please-dont-feed-the-trolls_o_574238.jpg" width=800>
Dream Jordan Magic Bird Duncan Kareem Wilt Shaq LeBron Kobe Russell Wade West Moses Dr. J Robertson Zeke Baylor Mchale The Glide No one will agree with me but #21 in my opinion is YAO. The man was so dominant in his short tenure here that he had to be treated like crap each game of his career by corrupt officials. I have so much respect for the big man's game, he was a graceful 7'6 who also developed a power game around his 4th year. Much respect for YAO.
I don't see how Hakeem can be no.1. He's borderline top 10, unless we understand "greatest" differently. Greatest =/= best, greatest includes titles, awards, numbers, overall impact on history of the league. I add points for general epicness of career, like Hakeem, Rick Barry or Dirk winning titles with relatively not much help. 1. Bill Russell 2. Michael Jordan 3. Magic Johnson 4. Wilt Chamberlain 5. Larry Bird 6. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 7. Shaquille O'Neal 8. LeBron James 9. Tim Duncan 10. Hakeem Olajuwon 11. Kobe Bryant 12. Karl Malone 13. Dirk Nowitzki 14. Moses Malone 15. Jerry West 16. David Robinson 17. John Havlicek 18. Julius Erving 19. Rick Barry 20. Dwyane Wade I also considered but I couldn't find a place: Scottie Pippen, Kevin Garnett, Kevin McHale, Oscar Roberton, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash
id also like to ad that hakeem being #8 all time in steals at his height and position along with the blocks clearly shows that he was at another level in regards to other centers.
If you asked me to take Tim Duncan or Lebron James, only a fool would pick Lebron over timmy. Just saying.
I realized how many players I forgot. Bob Pettit in particular. I should have him in top 20. I'd probably put him at 15 behind Moses, but there's a case as high as 11. Bob Cousy and Mikan. I don't know where, but no question that both had top 20 great careers, helping define point guard and center positions.
Based on skill rather than accomplishments. 1. Jordan 2. Kareem 3. LeBron 4. Magic 5. Shaq 6. Hakeem 7. Kobe 8. Duncan 9. Bird 10. Wilt 11. Moses 12. Malone 13. Garnett 14. Barkley 15. Robertson 16. Dr. J 17. Robinson 18. Dirk 19. Russell 20. Stockton HM: Wade, Pippen, Isiah
Kobe should not be in the top 20. Most overrated player ever. Whoever comes to mind first: Jordan Lebron Wilt Hakeem Russell Abdul Jabbar Duncan Magic Bird Shaq Robertson Moses Malone Barkley K. Malone Robinson Dr. J Garnett Jerry West Dirk Pettit
I think it's a good idea to spend some time reading the BBS and making several posts before entertaining the idea of starting a thread. I rarely start threads myself. It's rare that a topic isn't being discussed somewhere, which a search could help find. Putting the Dream at number 11 makes me think you aren't here as a fan of the Rockets. If you support another team, go ahead and say so. At least then we have some perspective, in my humble opinion. Otherwise, welcome to Clutchfans. -
Why does anybody really think Bob Pettit was one of the greatest to ever walk the face of the earth? None of us ever saw him play, the highlights are nice but not particularly impressive by modern standards. He was a good player for his era, which was the early 60's garbage stats time period, but alltime greatness? It seems like his case is mostly based on his poitns and rebounds - when he played in an incredibly cheap era to get points and rebouns. I have a hard time saying he was any better than Kevin Love or Lamarcus Aldridge really.
I wasn't old enough to witness the glory of the elder players. 1.Jordan 2.Hakeem 3.Kobe 4.Shaq 5.Duncan
I think comparing which of these players is "better" is a fool's game. In most cases, we can't be sure how a player would perform under modern rules, with modern training, against modern competition. But we can judge how great was someone's career, which is the question of the thread. Two different things. I can't say that Bob Cousy would be a better player than Ricky Rubio if he was somehow magically teleported into the current era. Cousy had no jumper, he had a set shot and he wasn't even great at it. He had a fantastic vision, so does Rubio. And Rubio is a good defender, Cousy was not. But can I say that Cousy had a greater career than Ricky Rubio? Pretty much, yep. I think there's an obvious distinction between two questions, who's "better" which in most cases is impossible to judge, and who was a greater player. What I do know about Pettit is that he was the best PF and one of the very best players in the game for a decade. He was relatively efficient for his era, a good 5-6% TS above the league's average in those days. He has a ton of individual awards to show for it, and he led his team to a championship. That qualifies him as one of the greats.
