Unfortunately, Synergy no longer makes its consumer product available to the public (unless you drop ~10k USD on it), so we can't enjoy digesting Rockets synergy stats like last season [example]. In a search for some new resources, I came across Vantage Sports which has some interesting articles/stats. http://www.vantagesports.com/#team/Rockets Stats on the Rockets Vantage front page: This season, the Rockets are tied for 3rd with 4.2 Blocks per 100 Chances, but Houston also ranks 21st in Block to Possession Rate. The Houston Rockets' opponents have attempted a league-high 57% of their shots from inside the paint. The Rockets are 3rd in the NBA with a 21% Keep in Front% this year. Over the last 3 seasons, the Rockets have rolled or popped after 61.6 % of set screens, the third-highest rate in the NBA (league average = 55.4 %). Despite usually leading the league in 3-point attempts, the Rockets rank only 17th in Shot Distance Rating, which means they balance their threes with lots of inside shots and not many midrange shots. Rockets have been one of the better cutting teams in the NBA with 77.9% of their cuts or flashes resulting in open players. The Rockets are active on the defensive boards, with the league's 4th highest DReb Pursuit Rate (% of reboundable defensive chances where a player moves out of his area in pursuit of a rebound). Rockets' turnover problems have lied in their 55.3 Ball-Handling TO% (5th highest in NBA). When the Rockets swat shots, they recover 59.9% of them (NBA rank = 4). Houston is 4th in the league in Open+ FG% (on shots that are pressured, guarded, or open) at 57.1% but ranks 23rd in the league in Open+ Frequency at 36.8% Articles: Terrence Jones Has All-Star Potential (I'm glad he gets some recognition and don't agree with people who crap on such a young/talented player so easily The Grossly Overunderrated Chandler Parsons (hopefully this doesn't derail the thread, but yes, it says Parsons isn't a great player, and overrated as an offensive player/facilitator The Best Screen Setter for the Rockets Is Jason Terry (Wow, Jason Terry?) The articles are insightful and packed with lots of good stats; each one probably deserve a thread of its own for discussion (feel free to open one). The stats reinforce what everyone has been seeing/saying about how well the Rockets are guarding players on the wings (likely due to Ariza and Harden stepping up big time) and funneling them inside. The entire defensive tone has changed this season and praise should be given to the defensive staff. Apparently the Rockets are setting screens extremely well this season and Jason Terry is the best screen setter of them all. However, their offensive playmaking and ball-handling still leaves room for improvement - maybe an upgrade at PG is more of a #1 priority than a PF upgrade?
I agree with OP on the PG situation. We are turnover prone because Harden has the ball most of the time to score, play d, and make plays. This causes lapses in concentration so he turns the ball over. A solid ball handler PG like Rondo or, even better, dragic, would give Harden and others easier baskets. Also would save on Harden's usage which would help us keep our star(s) healthy all the way through the playoffs. Beverly's style is only conducive off-the bench. He cannot sustain his style through a whole game. MR. Dragic, sorry we let you go. Please come back to Houston where you will get all the PT you want, our prodigal son.
The fit doesn't get much better than Rondo. We don't need scorers. We need a player that will get easy baskets for everyone around him. We need a guy that loves to assist. Rondo.
Interesting articles with BOS videos about Jason Terry. So the Jet knows how to get away with those screen actions haha I'll pay more attention to the wily veteran in our next game.
Unfortunately this stuff always only gets a few hundred views, then falls to the second page without discussion . Needs more Parsons.
"This season, the Rockets lead the entire league in deflections per 100 chances at 4.9." From the site. Thanks for adding content to the board.
Woahhh I do a bit of work/writing for Vantage. The overall site and database is kind of new and they're working on implementing some things right now. Awesome to see it posted here. Glad you guys are enjoying it!
I wonder how they gather there stats? Are they just taking the games and analyzing them and coming up with the stats or do they have an automated way of doing it?
I imagine they spent $10K+ a year for SportsVU data (the only current way to generate those types of stats) and wrote their own analysis software, plugging into the exported API that SportsVU provides. But I am still exploring the site.

Post-ups to Motiejunas, iso to Harden, and pick and roll with Dwight and Harden. They are all about the 90th percentile in those things.
And I think you should make a new thread. That's some nice information and it will just be lost in this thread.
Dorsey's post up efficiency is almost as good as Dwight. No wonder Morey signed him two-year guaranteed.
