More competition couldn't hurt, but I prefer the in-house options more.

Yeah, this is like adding an older Lucas Harrell.

I have a hard time seeing Harrell & Williams on the 25-man roster.

Edit: Posted an impressive 30 innings last year as a reliever. Maybe they envision him as a reliever/emergency starter.

This seems kind of pointless if we're looking at him as a starter. Don't we already have a bunch of young guys vying for limited spots?

Chron.com said "Astros agree to terms with veteran pitcher" and the thumbnail next to the story looked like E. Santana in his Angels uniform. Almost had a heart attack.

I wish it had been Santana... :(

Williams' FanGraphs profile, if you'd like to peruse his advanced stats.

Feels a lot like the Rockets with power forwards before the 2012-2013 season.

He sounds like a known-option for innings eating. A very Scott Feldman like deal.

A bunch of young guys where most of them probably either aren't ready yet or not good enough period. Besides, there's always a hidden lottery ticket when it comes to signing starting pitchers. If they perform well, they're easily flippable at the deadline for young talent.

The young guys are either ready, or are never going to be good enough. These are a bunch of guys who are over 25 and spent extensive time in AAA in their careers.

Jerome Williams isn't easily flippable for young talent. He is 32 and was never more than a mediocre pitcher. We couldn't even flip Bedard last year. This isn't a guy with upside. He is purely an insurance policy.
