Bima,
Thanks so much for this analysis. Truly proof that the Rockets have put themselves in position to take advantage of special opportunities, should they arise. It's clear that we have one of the most cap-savy GMs in the league and preventing the cap from limiting opportunities to improve is a big part of his job.

An excellent read, Bima. Things nearly grind to a halt around here when you post these, with everyone reading your latest update. The main thing I took from this one is just what a remarkable job Morey has done doing damn near a complete rebuild in one off-season, giving us easily the youngest team in the league, yet one apparently capable of playing .500 ball, and doing that while retaining enormous flexibility, both for moves at the deadline, and for next off-season. As you point out, we now have a franchise cornerstone with which to build around, and the means to add another All Star level talent at the end of this year, or next summer, should the opportunity present itself, or simply to add talent for a playoff run at the deadline if that looks like the best idea this year. Wow!

Great read as always, very interesting to see if Morey will try to trade for another piece at the deadline or simply wait and try to lure a big fish next summer.

Great read.

Other than trade, Morey also insists there's good chance that at least one of our young players eventually emerges as a star. I'm seeing good development from a few of them lately(not consistent yet), and believe in their future with some patience.

Its crazy how much Morey had rebuild this team just over the course of the off-season. Plus the best thing about this rebuilding process is that Morey did it at the right time. I don't think Morey can achieve this type of team with a star player in Harden in the last couple of years. But now, the Rockets future never looked so bright.

I definitely think Morey would prefer to trade to get Bird Rights,Contract to a "second star". If the Rockets do this, they won't have to release Delfino and can re-sign Aldrich, Douglas, and Cook if they want if not included to match salaries. An added benefit of doing it this way would be acquiring the MLE next off season.

Granted, he needs a trade partner willing to do this...

Here's a trade spec article. I wouldn't mind seeing a real PF with better rebounding skills on the team. Not sure if anyone out there worth chasing at this point.

An interesting quote from the article:

"
6. The New James Harden Isolations

Harden shot 45 percent on about two isolation shots per game last season, ranking among the league's 10 most efficient iso scorers, per Synergy Sports. He's shooting 25 percent this season on twice as many attempts, a good illustration of the difficulties in transitioning to full-time no. 1 option. One play especially irks: Houston will clear one side of the floor for Harden to work in something between an isolation and a post-up. It looks very much like those Miami plays where the Heat clear one side for LeBron. Harden just hasn't been up to the challenge, though you can understand Houston's thinking, with Lin's struggles and the lack of any other creators.
"
