Bowers? He isn't even projected to go in the first round.

I'm fairly certain most of you simply lock onto a couple of names you hear in late December and pay no attention to the actual scouting process.

    Here's ESPN Insider's scouting report..

    Production
2 2007 (Central Michigan): Played in 14 games at tight end; 8 catches, 77 yards. 2008: Transferred to Wisconsin, moved to defensive end, sat out the season under NCAA transfer rules. 2009: (13/13) 44 total tackles, 15.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 2 FR, 5 PBU, 1 BLK FG. 2010: (13/13) 62 total tackles, 21 TFL, 7 sacks, 3 FF, 2 FR; 1 INT, 9 PBU; 1 BLK FG, 2 BLK PATs.

    Height-Weight-Speed

2 Exceptional combination of height, weight and straight-line speed.

    Durability

2 Appeared in every game of three-year collegiate career. Left 2010 Arizona State game twice with leg injuries but returned to the game both times.

    Intangibles

1 Named Wisconsin's defensive scout team player of the year in 2008. Named team MVP in 2010. Named Academic All-Big 10 in 2009 and 2010.

    1 = Exceptional2 = Above average3 = Average4 = Below average5 = Marginal

    Defensive End Specific Traits

    Pass Rush Skills
2 Lacks elite first-step quickness. Carries his weight well but is not an elite pass rusher. Lacks lateral agility on double moves but still is a three-down defensive end. Power-to-speed rusher. Shows savvy setting up offensive linemen. Has quick, violent hands. Can get off of blocks quickly, finds the quarterback quickly and shows very good closing burst for his size. Much faster finishing than he is starting. Has rare instincts when it comes to getting hands up and either batting down passes or affecting QBs passing lane. Always active and never stops hustling. Absolutely relentless.

    Versus the run
1 Stronger upper body than lower body. Could play with better pad level at times but is powerful. Can anchor versus the run but also does an excellent job of finding the ball, disengaging and pursuing. He shows exceptional hand usage. Shows violent, quick hands and knows how to use them. Takes good angles in pursuit and shows better straight-line speed than anticipated once he has momentum. He's a finisher.

    Versatility
2 Can slide inside and rush the passer on occasion. Has the frame and upper-body strength to develop into an effective 5-technique but needs to get stronger in the lower body.

    Instincts/Motor
1 Snap awareness is generally very good. Will take the bait versus the option on occasion and leaves his scheme vulnerable. But his overall awareness is exceptional. Finds the ball and keeps his head on a swivel. Shows outstanding anticipation. No defensive lineman in this class does a better job of getting his hands up and affecting the quarterback's throwing lane. Is absolutely relentless. Tremendous motor.

    1 = Exceptional2 = Above average3 = Average4 = Below average5 = Marginal

Oh no I pay plenty of attention to football.. especially college football.. Texans strictly needed a corner.. should have gone with Amukamara.. simple as that.. unless they're planning on a trade in the future..

We needed a playmaker on defense. We drafted Shane Battier.

Not saying Watt is a bad player.. basing it on what we needed and even if management decided not to pick a corner.. had better options ahead of Watt..

Yes, the problem with the Texans was definitely that they needed more youth in the secondary! After all, rookie CBs are known for their immediate contributions!

    Wait... what?

Watt is a coach on the field? Funny, the ESPN guys were describing him as an "athletic freak". That sounds like Battier?

We need to get better on defense, period. There's no one magic position or player that the Texans need. This is one of the worst defenses in the history of the sport. They need to go with who they think is the BPA, period.

Basically picking up Watt is compared to picking up Kareem Jackson last year.. Jackson was lucky he got picked up earlier than he was supposed to.. and sam is gonna go for Watt..I am not talking about how Jackson performed his rookie season.. strictly basing this on what else was available at the time...

Again, what? This is basically right around where Watt was projected.

I would have preferred other options. I dont think the Watt selection was a good one.

I'm holding out the very very unlikely hope that we picked for Denver and are announcing a trade including Okoye for Miller tomorrow.

WOLB rushing specialist, CB.....Watt is neither of these. His fit is Smith or Mario's 3-4 end position. Unless Wade has secretly decided to move Mario back and stand him up (just as scary).

I was scared they'd move back for a worthless pick, but passing on Fairley, Quinn, and Amukamara (and Aldon Smith) for Watt? Whom nearly every mock had going around 18? Was this McNair's crazy character over all else mandate?

    So tired of this franchise.

That and it says projected...to go as high as... in fact that site u linked says most likely the chargers at 18... also one of his weakness limited pass rush repertoire.. something the texans needed was pass rushing.. nfl players will read him easily... i personally think he went higher than he should have.. again thats my opinion..

You've never heard of KFFL? Really?

OK, here are four guys you'll know - ESPN's Mel Kiper, ESPN's Scouts Inc., FOX's Brian Billick, and the NFL Network's Mike Mayock.

Their final big board rankings of Watt? 12, 12, 11, and 11.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...iper-mike-mayock-top-experts-top-25-big-board

Wow, what a reach by the Texans.
