By RICHARD JUSTICE
Nov. 20, 2009

McGrady stormed out of a meeting with general manager Daryl Morey a couple of weeks ago and followed up with a tense conversation with coach Rick Adelman this week. Relations with trainer Keith Jones are said to be less than wonderful...

McGrady apparently believes owner Leslie Alexander would rather collect the insurance money on McGrady's $23.3 million contract than have McGrady in uniform...

Alexander furious

...Alexander wants to win. If there's one thing we've learned about him, it's he's as committed to winning as almost any owner in pro sports.

Alexander is said to be livid that McGrady would accuse him of such a thing.

...Regardless of how McGrady leaves, he will leave. He's done here.

Sounds to me something's gonna happen.

Nobody knows what exactly happened between Rick Adelman and Tracy McGrady and their media-called heated convo, which appeared ridiculous. If I were T-Mac,before he proved his leftover value in his tank, how the hell possibly could he risk his career and the chances to get a good contract next season?

3 days left, they must try hard to write as much as they can. It's their job, you know.

Don't know if this has already been posted.

I don't like to "feed the troll" usually, but it doesn't happen too often in the Chronicle, and I wanted to post this before someone posted this article with the "see? Tmac's a ****!" reaction.

The article basically talks about how Tmac is being a diva and whining about how he can't play. The facts that the article is based on would be the supposed screaming argument Tmac had with Adelman, him storming out of Morey's office, and a theory he apparently has about Les wanting to collect insurance money. But the thing is, none of the players involved (Adelman, Les, Morey or Tmac) have made any corroborating quotes to support any of this to be truth.

I'm not saying none of it is true, but it could very well be an exaggeration.

What bothers me the most is that he plays the "Tmac is a diva" card, yet none of this is public. He hasn't made any public demands. In fact, he's gone out of his way to not bitch about Adelman and Morey in public when the media pressed the issue. Diva's like to be on the front lines getting attention, not quietly arguing their case in the background.

He ends it with the usual "trade McGrady" montra. Which is just retarded. If Tmac was a cancer, just cut him and we will be under the cap a good 15 million with only Scola to resign.

It's Dick Justice's opinion. That's all. I don't even bother to read.

It's pretty funny actually. When there's no update about McGrady's rehab progress, not one reporter would care enough to go out his way to write an article about him. When we are just a few days away from the big practice and the MRI, every single one of them writes TMac news all of sudden.

First off, McGrady is certainly a diva... Second, we can get more than a 7-8 million FA with McGrady's expiring contract...

Then why hasn't this diva gone to the public outraged that he isn't getting playing time? Thats how guys like TO would do it. When he's pissed at someone he lets the media know during interviews. Tmac on the other hand goes out of his way to keep quiet about it.

You can't have it both ways. He can't be a diva and be lying to the media to keep this rift between him and the team private.

Look at the article for the actual facts. It's based off of some guy told me that they had a conversation and voices were raised. The same guy (I think) said something about him slamming a door.

Now, even if we assume this is true. Does this automatically mean that there is this irreparable rift between coach and player?

But we can't even assume this is true. They both deny voices were raised, and people go "well, they are just covering it up so that they don't create a panic". But by the same token we could also say "well, the media is making this bigger than this actually is in order to sell newspapers."

Excuse me if I am not quick to believe that we are done with McGrady based on articles like these.

Exactly. Even Feign described McGrady's situation in his blog, instead of the Atlanta game.

Yep. Both on the front page of the Chronicle's sports page right now, both with completely contradictory fact patterns--

Feigen ["Rockets dismiss report of quarrel"]:
quote:
...ATLANTA — Although Tracy McGrady made it clear he has grown weary with waiting for Monday’s practice and MRI — the Rockets’ next step toward his return to the court — he and coach Rick Adelman said Friday that their conversation about it Wednesday was not emotional and voices were not raised.

Yahoo Sports reported McGrady and Adelman “engaged in an emotional and sometimes loud closed-door confrontation” after McGrady put on his uniform as if he was going to play.

Enough drama

“It’s not even an issue,” McGrady said. “If coach tells you something different, I’d be surprised. I’m here to play basketball. I’m not here to be a distraction. I’ve been through enough of that drama last year. I’m not going to let it start this year, at all.”

McGrady, 30, said Friday morning and again Friday evening that voices were not raised.

“No question about it,” he said. “I’m not that type of person, and you know coach is not.”

Adelman did not seem upset Wednesday. McGrady had gone through his usual pregame workout before he returned to the locker room and later changed into his uniform while Adelman conducted his pregame media interview. Adelman later laughed when told McGrady was in uniform.

Adelman said Friday that when they met, the conversation did not get loud but that McGrady did not want to wait for next week to play...
vs.
Justice [link above]:
quote:

Did the company line change that quickly, or is one of them possibly telling the truth?

i read on another board (don't know if it's true). the poster claims he's an "employee" of the rockets and he says the media is blowing this WAY out of proportion. he said the argument NEVER happened. however, adelman and tmac did talk.

but obviously the media has taken this and fly with it, just has this board. but so many things are coming at you at once, you don't really know what to believe.

He does? Like when he told Stephen A Smith about his knee surgery before he told the team?

This just tells you how you can take quotes and events told to you by unnamed sources and go in two completely different directions with it. Honestly, we've had articles where Tmac was done for over a year now. You'd think he'd be on the trading block by now if any of it was true.

And really, if it turns out I'm wrong and Tmac is this whiny little diva that the media tries to pin him as. Then why has Morey even strung us along like it's possible he could play for us again? Why has he led Tmac to believe he's still wanted?

Yeah that article pissed me off, and not for the content either. Justice is going to get some run all over the national press for his yellow journalism while the franchise suffers in the form of every team now believing what is being printed and appraising T-Mac as an expiring contract with no value whatsoever on the court.

1. It's way too early to make that assessment about McGrady. What if he really does have some game left? Justice would be completely wrong.
2. It should be the organization's call if they want to start dealing with teams under the supposition that T-Mac is an expiring and no more. Justice has crippled the team's maneuverability by passing down his own ill-informed judgment, pun intended.

So good job, Richard Justice. You just hurt our franchise for your own profit. Feigen could have easily done the same but he's not an asshole like you.

if what justice says is true, then props to him. we need more sports reporters to speak the truth, rather than just say what the team wants him to say (we all know feigen is a mouthpiece of the team).

but like i said, we really don't know what's going on until probably when tracy and the team part ways.
