Also... WOJ has clearly missed on some of his scoops.. nature of the beast. Food for though on how we grade our own insiders who aren't in the same stratosphere as WOJY.

Are "hit pieces" in journalism the equivalent to "diss records" in rap music?????

    Isn't Stein basically a mouthpiece for Cuban-douche?

Maybe it's just me, but I often feel like his writings have a pro-Mavs, anti-Rox slant.

[rQUOTEr]Sources: Adrian Wojnarowski Is Pitching His Own Vanity Site

The one truly indispensable basketball reporter is making moves. According to multiple sources, Yahoo reporter Adrian Wojnarowski has approached a number of basketball writers over the past few weeks and pitched them on joining a new personality-driven basketball website that he is contemplating. It’s unclear what the website would look like or who would fund it—one source described Wojnarowski’s pitch as “peddling” the site—but it sounds like it is being modeled on Sports Illustrated’s MMQB, the extremely successful football-only standalone site led by Peter King, which has a staff of around 10.

The Big Lead’s Jason McIntyre, a former colleague of Wojnarowski’s at The Record (Bergen County, NJ), reports that FOX, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated are all courting Wojnarowski, but our sources say Mcintyre has the story backwards: that Wojnarowski is pitching a website to them. It is also highly unlikely that ESPN, who had conversations with Wojnarowski’s agent when his contract was up in 2012, would pursue Wojnarowski, given the many problems with their own personality-driven websites. For his part, Wojnarowski has a well-known disdain for ESPN.

Wojnarowski signed a contract with Yahoo in 2012, and according to a source it expires during this coming offseason. If Wojnarowski is looking for writers, this summer is as good of a time as any to find them. The contracts of the four basketball writers Bleacher Report hired two years ago in their push for increased quality—Howard Beck, Kevin Ding, Ethan Skolnick, Jared Zwerling—are up soon. Meanwhile, Grantland’s basketball crew—Jonathan Abrams, Zach Lowe, Kirk Goldsberry, and assorted others—are said to be hesitant of their future at ESPN after Bill Simmons’s unceremonious ouster.

While MMQB has been a success for Sports Illustrated, it remains to be seen whether there is an audience appetite for a basketball-only site. Wojnarowski seems ready to find out, though—according to a source, he’s approached Ding, Goldsberry, and CBS Sports’ Ken Berger. (None of them returned emails seeking comment, and Wojnarowski didn’t return an email or phone call.)[/rQUOTEr]

[rQUOTEr]Sports Illustrated Trying to Pry Adrian Wojnarowski From Yahoo Sports?

Adrian Wojnarowski, the news-breaking NBA insider at Yahoo Sports, is being heavily courted by multiple media outlets – led by Sports Illustrated – to create basketball’s version of Peter King’s The MMQB, multiple sources tell The Big Lead.

The buzz in Cleveland this week at the NBA Finals was that with Wojnarowski’s contract up later this year – before the 2015-2016 NBA season begins – multiple outlets are pitching him on the idea of creating an NBA vertical that would become the internet’s top destination for basketball fans.

Wojnarowski didn’t return a text message seeking comment.

Sports Illustrated, which took Peter King from NFL insider and gave him a 24-7-365 football website, is said to be the leader to try and pry Wojnarowski from Yahoo Sports. Several writers at the NBA Finals claim that SI’s success with The MMQB has been a huge selling point, and it has a deep roster of basketball writers already on staff – Lee Jenkins, Phil Taylor, Pete Thamel and Chris Ballard, to name a few – who could contribute to the project.

Ultimately, the question will be whether or not Woj – who has a TV deal with Fox Sports – will want to leave Yahoo, where he and Dan Wetzel have been the driving forces behind the creation of its powerful sports section. ESPN, which has a lengthy, lucrative TV deal with the NBA, has come after Wojnarowski before.[/rQUOTEr]

Yep, I agree. Zach Lowe, Jalen Rose and all these other guys simply can't replace him. Bill Simmons is just much better, and probably the best at making podcasts.

Simmons and Woj should just get together and work on a site dedicated to crapping on ESPN.

LOL wtf is this? I'm sorry, but ESPN's known for making up BS stories...confidential "sources" that are really nothing more than educational guesses made by the columnist. And they charge actual money for making up stuff.

On the other hand, Woj breaks accurate news way before anybody else does...and he provides his services for free, none of this insider BS crap. So what if he mixes his opinions here and there, his pieces are always entertaining to read and honestly I don't give a **** how he got his information, the important thing is it is accurate and I know he didn't make them up.

As for Woj making his own site, not sure why he'd want to do that since he already basically owns yahoo sports. If he does though I'd love it if he can get some of the grantland authors and maybe hook up with Simmons. Simmons is great at writing pieces, while Woj is awesome at breaking news it would basically be game over for all the rest of the sporting sites as far as b-ball is concerned.

Simmons and Woj together would destroy the rest of NBA reporting.
