Yep typo Another bad start by McHugh last night too Still have time to get back but can't continue to put out crappy starts
He really didn't pitch bad. The 2nd run was on a groundball hit, followed by a would be double play except the runner was going, then an IF hit, and lastly a would be double play ball that Altuve bobbled a little that allowed the runner to score. 3rd run came on a single, then a stolen base, and then a bloop hit.
The moral of the story is.... stop having so many runners on-base. Stros scored 2 runs from a balk and wild pitch. Don't forget McHugh allowed 2 jacks last night, also.
An infield hit, a groundball that finds a hole, and a bloop hit are pretty much out of the pitchers control, unless he strikes everyone out (he did strike out 6). Those are the types of contact that a pitcher wants. 2 HRs on not terrible pitches. It happens sometimes. It wasn't a bad start when actually watching the game, compared to looking at the final numbers.
Kyle Tucker's line so far: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI, R Quad Cities is currently leading Great Lakes 4-2 in the 6th in a game that started at 10:35 Eastern.
Daz Cameron, of, Astros. The son of Mike Cameron and the Astros’ No. 5 prospect has struggled this season at low Class A Quad Cities. Daz physically resembles his dad and carries many of the same traits, although with less raw power. He also carries some of the swing-and-miss issues. After a representative pro debut, the contact issue has been evident this season with 33 whiffs in 77 at-bats. He has been sent to extended spring to work on his swing, the Houston Chronicle reported. Read more at http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/baseball-america-prospect-report-2/#43WKkm5wyZvDKhfs.99
Some happenings from today's Minor League games: - Kyle Tucker: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R - A.J. Reed hit his 6th homer of the year for Fresno. - Chase McDonald homered for the 3rd game in a row; he's got 8 now. McDonald has homered in 5 of the last 6 games for Corpus Christi. - Brady Rodgers threw a complete game shutout for Fresno; he allowed 4 singles and struck out 9 in the Grizzlies' 2-0 win over Reno.
The dude is 6'4'' 265, so the power is probably quite legit. He hit 30 HR in Lancaster, which was tied for 2nd in the Cal League, but it's good to see him carry it to AA. McDonald actually had a higher frequency of HR per plate appearance than AJ Reed last year (obviously Reed spent a bunch of time in AA vs. Lancaster and is a year younger). The question is mainly on if his hit tool will play. He's hitting .260 this year, and hit .280 last year. His strikeout rate is actually down slightly (27% to 24%), but that's still a bit high.
Chase McDonald = Rich Man's Telvin Nash Could reach the majors for a crummy team starved for power. Very doubtful he sees meaningful time in Houston.
Is Alex Bregman coming back tonight??? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">GameDay <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/imhooked?src=hash">#imhooked</a></p>— Alex Bregman (@ABREG_1) <a href="https://twitter.com/ABREG_1/status/728274682672123904">May 5, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
A few highlights from tonight's games: - Lance McCullers allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7 in his first rehab start for Fresno. - Lancaster went nuts on Visalia in a 19-5 win. Nick Tanielu went 5-6 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. - Evan Gattis hit a 2-run homer for Corpus, which turned out to be the only runs of the game. He also caught a would-be base stealer. - In that Corpus game, Joe Musgrove allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 over 3 scoreless; his ERA now stands at 0.34. - Albert Abreu struck out 7 over 4 scoreless for Quad Cities; he now has 38 strikeouts in 24.1 IP, and opponents are hitting .172 against him.
Our pitching woes can be fixed in house. Lance McCullers and Joe Musgrove. Now we need some hitters. Danny Worth for one who I think is playing good enough to get a shot.
Can Worth play anything other than 2b? That is the biggest question I see right off the bat. If he is 2B only then obviously there is no place for him. Interesting how well he has done since the beginning of last year cause before last year he was never a really good hitter in the minors, and he is already 30. Has hit well for over a full year now though, but again whether he has any value to us at all would depend on if he could play another position
He's actually played about as much SS in his career as 2B. He's also played a handful of innings (~90) of 3B at MLB level, and started 140 games at 3rd in the minors. Basically, he's a classic utility guy.
