Heard this on the Dan LeBatard show this morning on Espn radio. Didnt catch the whole conversation. Anybody hear anything about this?
Bad move if we let him go. Properly motivated by a new coach and system, Ariza will be playing at the level he did before last year's team-wise funk. At $8M a year, he's a bargain, even if he comes off the bench.
yes I also saw it in my twitter feed but don't remember from who and it wasn't someone very credible. According to that person Houston wasn't interested.
Chris Bussard had it on his Twitter this morning. Saying Cleveland is wanting Ariza but Houston not interested.
DM saying no to the Cavs can be interpreted two ways: 1) They offered junk and we weren't receiving equal value 2) The rebuild-on-the-fly is real and we plan on being competitive this year

Obviously a Kevin Love deal would be ideal, but do the Rockets have enough pieces for that to work? Cap-wise they certainly do, but talent wise? Another conversation worth having might be a sign and trade for JR Smith. I can't imagine that would go over well on CF and I'd rather keep Ariza, but he's a great spot shooter, and he hit some big shots in the playoffs last year.
BTW, the Rockets could trade Brewer into the Cavs 9.6M Trade Exception they have. Cavs get a wingman (with a broken shot) and the Rockets clear 7M in cap room.
Why would they trade Love for Ariza? Only way to trade Ariza is if we get a better wing or are taking (picks, young guys in return)
Disagree. Unless we get something decent in return, dumping Ariza and/or Brewer just to get rid of them makes no sense. Trevor didn't suck two years ago, and last year EVERYBODY sucked except Harden (on offense). I don't mind him and Brewer on the team to see what they can do in a new system, as long as they're not supposed to be our primary 3-point threats. If the new coach and system don't bring their games back, then their contracts will be valuable at the trade deadline. DD, you've really go to stop with this can-kicking approach of yours.
Ariza is underrated for the defense he brings. He is a very poor mans Klay Thompson to Harden's Curry. If you swap Ariza out, you gotta bring in a better version of him.
