A nice little read on Troy. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...s-something-to-prove-with-rockets/#24500101=0
Daniels is actually quite smart to stay with the Rockets. Elsewhere he's not going to get the opportunity to just bomb 3s all the time and put up the type of stats that will get him paid in his next contract. Whatever else you may say about Morey's methods, players who come through the Rockets system more often than not leave being better players and make more money. Something you cannot say for a lot of teams. Our player development takes a backseat to no one. IMO, perhaps not even to the Spurs. The difference is that the Spurs can always keep their guys because they don't have to search for their stars like Morey needed to always do.
He needs to watch a lot of tape of guys like Korver, Rip Hamilton, and obviously Ray Allen. His shooting paired with relentless cutting and finding open spaces will do wonders for this offense.
It'd be cool if Daniels played with Ray Allen this season. That's still possible, and he'd learn from one of the best ever.
He would learn from Allen to be a LeBron fan boy, and chase him from team to team. On a serious note, that would be a great experience for him to learn from Allen. Maybe we could get Jimmer and have Jimmer teach Daniels how to shoot it from near half court.
Why isn't he in a summer league? Are they invites only? I would think they are better than training on your own.
Just a guess The summer league players are either trying to prove they deserve a shot on the team or trying to play into shape(Monty). I'm guessing that Daniels already has assurances from the Rockets they view him as part of the rotation and he would be better suited training and working on his game.
He was technically still a restricted free agent while summer league was going on. Probably didn't want to risk injury while he didn't have a contract?
I just don't see McHale will use him that way. Spot up for Harden's drive and dish, or Howard's post up dishing out when double teamed is where he will be mostly desired. His main challenge will be 3pt % consistency and defense
I hope he has a bigger role this year....like 15 to 20 minutes a game. If we can somehow get Dragic (or another PG) while keeping Beverley, I love this guard rotation: Dragic / Beverley Harden / Daniels Really allows you to play small ball effectively and limit Harden's minutes.
Really great scouting report on Troy, and what we can expect from him next season: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>What Can Troy Daniels Bring To The Houston Rockets Next Season? <a href="http://t.co/GjFLfGwOKp">http://t.co/GjFLfGwOKp</a></p>— Scott Rafferty (@crabdribbles) <a href="https://twitter.com/crabdribbles/statuses/501030906883473408">August 17, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Nice write up. For anyone unfamiliar, crab does a lot of reporting and viewing of our d-league squad.
More than his shooting, I was impressed at how comfortable Daniels looked on his defensive rotations. He always seemed to know where to be and what to do, even during the pressure of the playoffs. He never seems like he's in a rush, which I take to be a good thing. It's not laziness...it's just that he sees the floor well.
