Sorry but I just wrote a long summer of the action today at the World Global Games in Dallas and as I was trying to save it my computer crashed! So now I will give you the very brief summery not to be confused with the detailed summery that I had prepared. First of all Yao Ming is not fat or over weight. In fact he looks to be in very good shape. His biceps look bigger than they did the last time I saw him at the TC against Orlando last season. His condition is a little suspect but he is not fat at all. I have a ton of pictures I will post once I get them developed, they should be ready on Tuesday. For Yao Mings numbers: 20.5 minutes 18 points 9 rebounds 2 blocks 1 assist. 6 of 11 shooting 6 of 7 free throw shooting The Athletes in Action team was coached by Donnie Nelson. One guy, Justin Brown stood out. He scored about 12 points against Yao Ming but could do nothing to stop him. Yao Ming scared the crap out of me late in the 1st quarter is he started limping and had to come out of the game. It looked from where I was sitting that they were working on his toes. He did go back in to start the 2nd quarter. The Chinese team had such a commanding lead that Yao did not play any of the 4th quarter. The Chinese team was down 44 to 47 at half time but Yao was hot to start the 2nd half and the Chinese were up by almost 20 when Yao Ming went out for the last time in the 3rd quarter. Yao Ming had a series of dunks and even got in front of everyone on a fast break to recieve a pass and finish it off with a dunk. Every time Yao Ming scored there were some Asian girls in front of me that would sing the Yao Ming song. The audience were mainly Asian and all seemed to be really having a good time. I was there for the US vs. Canada game which the US one by 1 point shooting free throws with no time left on the clock. The Crowd was much bigger for the Chinese team than for the US and Canada game. I will try to catch at least one of the remaining 2 games with the Chinese National Team and the Mavericks summer league team. Let me stress one last time. Yao Ming looked to be in very good shape. He was not in basketball condition yet but he was not fat at all and looked to be in good shape.
Yeah Yeah I know. I am having them put on a disk but I think I managed to get some good ones. We will see Tuesday.
Groovy, Crash. Thanks! That's great news. Sure hope it was just a stubbed toe or something like it. Probably all it was. Maybe this was a tempest in a teapot.
I did not recogognize a single name on the US team. It was not the one that will be representing us in the olympics.
Athletes in Action is a christian based exhibition squad that goes around and plays colleges in exhbitions (and other national teams, obviously). They're at about the level of a Division II squad, or were the last time I saw them play.
Crash - you going to the other CNT games?? and yes Sam is right about the make up of Athletes in Action....i know they toured Australia once.... most of the players had sat on the end of an nba at some stage of their careers.. the exact players on the team varies depending on time/place/tournament
It's too bad that Bateer isn't doing well in the NBA. The only reason is very obvious is the language barrier that is messing him up. I mean they should at least bring Bateer to support Yao and vice versa, he would be a very good backup for Yao. Remember how he dominated in the World BBC? Well not really dominated, but play really well. I mean Rockets got nothing to lose jsut to have him on and see.
<img src="http://image2.sina.com.cn/ty/U366P6T12D965189F44DT20040628114120.jpg"> Yao looks OK. In the middle is Yi Jian Lian, the teenage phenom.
