Can anyone recommend some Swiss made watches around $500 or less? I have some weird Uncle who's looking to purchase one. I don't know jack sheep about watches nor do I care for them. For $500, I rather purchase a new cell phone.
Jeremy Lin chooses TAG Heuer, because they don't crack under pressure. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VeiNHmiGq-E?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yep, I've never been complimented, or had any conversations strike up because of my cell phone. TAG to me would be the logical place to start.
Hamilton khaki, tissot Visodate etc. but really your best bang for buck under five hundred is going to be Japanese made. Seiko or orient.
What constitutes crap? A 20 dollar timex will keep time for decades, so everything over that is just vanity. That is coming from someone that has several expensive swiss watches.
this one is heavily discounted down to only $375 http://www.luxuryswisswatches.com/product_info.php?products_id=8111
If someone tells me they want to spend $500 on a Swiss watch... I don't think they want a $35 Timex. They probably want a dress watch or atleast a watch that "looks" the part. The problem is that most of the ones that are $200-$500 are either made from inferior materials and don't last or look to have high craftsmanship. Wenger has some watches made with decent craftsmanship and durable materials. As for Timex, there is nothing wrong with them (although material quality has gone down over the last 20 years) but they are not "show" pieces and probably not what the OP had in mind.
These are great watches for the buck. I've read that the difference between most of the watches in the 300-2500 range is almost entirely marketing/branding - the movements are all of generally the same quality (factory made in china and assembled in switzerland)
