And I'm saying that a replacement level player can be doing the same things that Cushing does now, at a fraction of the cost.
They have players on this roster doing worse. That is what I am saying. Who are your replacement level players? Tuggle and Bullough both have underwhelmed. I understand if you are talking about 2016 and free agency or the draft. But no one is available right now that is better.
I'm sure the team that signs Mallett would be happy to trade for Cushing. BTG, do you have an update on that?
Ted Johnson (a former ILB) just dismissed the idea of trading the leading tackler on this team. I know we haven't seen Cushing do the things he used to do but he is still a starting-level LB. Far from the biggest problem on this team. One of the worst tacklers, Moore, was a healthy scratch. Now that's a guy they can get rid of.
This is pure conjecture and wishful thinking on your part... Cushing IS the worst player on this defense, especially if you take into account how much he's making.
Actually stats and advanced stats back me up. He is the best ILB on this team by far. I don't argue that he is overpaid but if the team did, they should have done something about it in the off-season. You don't do it mid-season and make your team worse. Maybe they expected more from McKinney. There will be plenty of time to trade in the off-season. Speaking of overpaid, how is that Kareem Jackson contract looking?

http://houston.cbslocal.com/2015/11/03/mike-vrabel-defends-brian-cushing-against-critics/ Both Cush and Arian (my favorite Texans of all time) might not be with this team any longer. Sad day but its not going to stop Vrabel from holding it down for Cush and his efforts this year and in years past.
4th most tackles in the league? 29 more tackles than the next closest teammate? Yeah, the team gets better just by getting rid of him.
Contracts aren't guaranteed. And with a good GM a fourth or fifth round pick for Cushing who had 13 tackles last Sunday, should be fair.
I'm fine cutting lose the old blood, the downside, BoB doesn't really have any emerging talent to replace the old. Kevin Johnson should be good in 2 years but I'm not sure what else I see out there that I should be looking forward to.
