Good pick up... I think Smith should retire and probably will after this season... I think he can still contribute though in limited ways... good pick up for the Hawks.

The Hawks are building a competitive team. A mixture of their young guys with veterans such as Bibby and Smith. They will be a lock for the playoffs and might upset some of the top Eastern teams.

How so, what have they done this off-season that makes them so much better than last year?

Keeping the team intact and adding Crawford and Smith could add some strength to their bench.

I still think Atlanta will move either Williams or Josh Smith at some point this year, probably for someone who adds more size next to Horton. This signing gives them a definite back up either way at the 4.

I think they should keep Marvin... Josh Smith has attitude problems... they also need a new coach... Woodson (as much as I like him for what he did with Houston) is not a winner for them.... he's long overdue to get fired...

Does Joe Smith have much left? I don't think so.

Excellent signing. Joe Smith is STILL one of the most underrated players in the NBA today. People have a tendency to view him as a guy who went #1 overall but never became a superstar. They gloss over the fact that he is one of the better post defenders in the league, can hit the mid-range jumper and is a veteran leader. For the league minimum, the guy is an absolute steal.

He should NOT retire. He still has plenty left in the tank. He has never had a year where there was any concern whether he still had the skills to compete in the NBA. Let the guy continue drawing (well-deserved) paychecks.

    Atlanta is a officially a gamecrew's NIGHTMARE:

    Josh Smith
    Joe Smith
    Joe Johnson

It's gonna be funny listening to all these commentators completely butcher all their names! Well, funny for me -- since nobody else seems to watch the Hawks play.

P.S. Joe Smith is still a solid player. People just have to get over the #1 overall pick element.

Most people on this forum aren't old enough to remember him being drafted.

Better than being so old that you forgot he was drafted at number 1.

Ehhh, I guess. I mean, he was only one year before AI and that seems to be a pretty prominent pick that most would remember vividly. Especially since the Spurs and their tankjob that led to them getting Duncan was only a year after that. I was young at the time and even I remember both of two picks.
