I hate David West but he made the right choice here. If he was financially responsible its really irrelevant the amount of money he's losing.

It's garbage that only the Spurs and Mavs are benefitting from massive paycuts from free agents. :(

Yeah but $10 million is $10 million. Props to West. Always respected his game and toughness. Charles Oakley remix.

NBA needs to investigate the Spurs if they sign West as a consultant when he retires for an undisclosed amount.

The Spurs manage to stay tough regardless of their small market image. Well run organization to say the least. Does West get "bonuses"? I wouldn't jump to such conclusions easily. I'm sure the league keeps an eye on these things.

So damn many salty & narrow minded fans with conspiracy ****, why not just show some respect to this man.

ever heard Maslow's hierarchy of needs, money is not his concern any more, hes pursuing personal goal, achievement or things which matter most to himself. He is literally so called free man out there.

You know what's really great about being rich?

You can do whatever you want and not give a crap about what other people think. The actual lifestyle differences of having a $50 million dollar investment account and a $60 million dollar investment account are negligible. You might have a $12 million dollar house instead of a $10 million dollar house or a 60 foot boat instead of a 52 foot boat.

The only real 'value' in life is being able to wake up everyday happy, have fun and don't stress out with guilt and regret. I assume Mr. West thinks competing for a ring for a year with Pop and the Spurs will be fun.

It bears repeating what happened again:

He didn't take less money to join the Spurs.

He opted out (stupidly) hoping that he could snag an extra year or 2 to his deal, found the market was lacking, then joined the Spurs.

All in all, a lot less ridiculous than I initially thought.

If you offered him on June 25, before he opted out, the bilateral choice "would you pay 11 million to play for the spurs?" I doubt he would have said yes.

THe mistake he made was opting out, not joining the Spurs.

Oh and it bears repeatign that chumps who take less money in order to enrich NBA owners = chumps.

The NBA is a business, you think David West is going to be rewarded for meritorious service to the church of Saint Popovich of Hackatown if he tears his ACL this year?

    #Spursway

Except he could have done that in 2017 (or with some other team) and taken home $12.6 mm this year.

Too bad he ****ed up and opted out.

Spurs sign players with high character who are willing to take pay cuts and put the team first. Got to respect their philosophy and what they stand for.

Spurs are really straight forward with their players. Morey says he is too. One says it, the other doesn't need to. Talk with your actions. Respect

The paycut isn't that crazy. He's made 87 million in his career total..

    88 million vs 99 million...

Lol, you really despise the Spurs don't you.

I think it's pretty clear Spurs organization as been > than the Rockets in recent years.

He doesn't have 88 million in the bank or anywhere close tot hat right now.

if he has a net worth of even half that I'd be surprised.

He ****ed up by opting out, and I doubt if he had it do all over again tomorrow, he would.
