Not really. The depth is still noticeably bad, and I think most would agree Mchale is a detriment. That's on Morey. Anybody saying he's a scrub is a fool, and anybody saying he's flawless is a fool. He's a very good GM with some flaws.
I'm going to enjoy the win tonight. But the flaws of this team are very obvious and are going to hold us back from the ultimate goal.
When you have two top ten players on the team your going to win some games. Morey's system just doesn't appear to be conducive for deep playoff run. I know the roster is not a finished product but for a 10-3 team, there are still a lot of question marks with this team.
I'm not really sure what the purpose of this thread is, and why is it so highly rated. Almost everyone agrees that: 1) The Rox have a great record 10-3 2) The roster is still incomplete Obv depth is an issue but what exactly do you expect with the starting PF, starting center and now starting pg injured? LOL take away 3 starters from any team let's see if they can go 10-3
If people could actually comprehend what the Rockets lineup looked like 3 years ago...and what it looks like now, with 2 superstars, having never tanked a season in order to get a high lotto pick...then they'd know better than to call out Morey. Very, very few people in the NBA would have been able to do what Morey has done for this franchise. Yes, we havent won a title, but the team is just coming together now.
Most people lack the mental capacity to even remember what they were doing last week. You're hoping for too much from them.
What do you guys expect when you lose your two best bigs? Take Duncan and splitter off the spurs and see how they do. Take zbo and gasol or Lee and bogut out and see how those teams do.
I remember what the Rockets lineup looked like 7 years ago. I remember 3 straight seasons of being an 8th seed, 4th of being a 9th. He's had a lot of time to tweak his stat models. He's traded more players than any other GM in the league.. and it's not even close. Now he's installed a terrible puppet of a coach so he can run a gimmick offense of shooting 50 three's a game without running plays. Because the stats back him up. He definitely has to be questioned IRREGARDLESS of having 2 star players on the team. 7 years and 1 1st round appearance isn't exactly jaw dropping. Look at what the Kings and Raptors have done recently through drafting and ACCURATE player acquisitions. Harden is great, Howard is great, I don't want to see their primes go to waste. Moery is entering his 8th SEASON, time for Houston to be able to measure up against the best teams.
We get it depth is an issue. But morey already fixed the defense which is most important in winning a championship.
Kings who have been in the lottery for a decade and the Raptors who haven't even got out of the first round in the East? And who both have similar or worse records than the injured Rockets? What the hell are you talking about?
They are rags to riches story this season and legitimate. Have depth and play according to player strengths in a SYSTEM. People act like Morey is the only guy who's made a team dangerous in his 8th SEASON as a GM. He's banking on a gimmick offense that hurts this team against stronger opposition. Need real depth for it to be a threat. If he can nab Dragic or Millsap from teams where they aren't wanted it would be great, but his endless player turnover more often than that is a huge failure. the aaron brooks for ... who again? trade last season when it was clear lin was a liability was the nail in the coffin. he better put up or shut up.
Has Murray ever even had a top 10 pick to work with? Dude has done a super impressive job and almost all NBA franchises would love to have him.
We struck out hard this offseason. Things could not have gone worse for us even though it was a great plan from Morey. Even so, if healthy we are a top 4-5 team in the West, even with the disastrous offseason. He's done a good job overall, but I'd like to see him focus more on complimentary players as opposed to a third star.
A lot of people seem to misunderstand Moreyball completely. Nothing about it dictates that the Rockets play the way they do. It is only a strategy towards efficient shot selection not a playbook for taking shots. Any team could incorporate this strategy without changing the core of how they play. It is only about hedging the numbers in your teams favor. Math doesn't lie. A mid-range two made at even 45% is no better than shooting ill advised deep threes at 30%.
It's not about math. It's about the confidence that is required to make your shots. That makes a big difference. A good mid range shooter is much better than a streaky 3 point shooter.
