Yep... however, the original source that this thread is based on is also somewhat questionable.

Not sure why anybody would keep this a secret either way... unless it has something to do with the Hartmann case.

I think having the exact opposite of what you say end up being true 100% of the time is almost as impressive as being right 100% of the time. It's truly remarkable. He's the bellweather for fail. Like a bizzaro world Mark Berman or something.

    It's amazing right.

He's better than Woj. He is a guarantee, the opposite of whatever he says can be taken to the bank.

Ya would think that pure percentages or lady luck would come into play at some point. He is opposite George Costanza. " My name is George, I'm unemployed and I live my parents".

That's good to know. I remember as a kid going to run the bases at the Astrodome and thinking even then, "How do they play on this? It's a thin layer of sandpaper on concrete." I'd love to see a poll of how many baseball and football players hated coming to the Dome because it was like falling on concrete when you hit the ground. I marvel at the fact that players still made diving catches on it. That's dedication.

If they do go to turf, can we just put in a normal roof, sell the moving one as "very slightly used" to another gullible city, and refund the difference to the Houston taxpayers?

I actually enjoy attending open roof games at NRG more than when its closed... probably because they seem to win every game that the roof is actually open.

I tend to feel like they close the roof to make the place louder and create perfect playing conditions for the crapshoot of QBs they employ. If we had an elite QB, the roof would be open more.

LOL no. They close it because it gets hot and the sun angles are really bad to where fans in certain sections get major reflections that make it hard to enjoy the game. These fans complained and complained and the organization takes it to heart.

Should never have wasted the money on a retractable roof. Open like 4 times a year.

Well, 4 times a year is about 50% of the games.

There was only one game last year where they didn't open it on a perfect day (Eagles game), and they got a ton of negative press and social media vitriol for that... And on the flip side, very little complaints (if at all) for the open roof games.

Like I said before, I think open roof games are great (still plenty loud). Hell, they opened the roof for this years SB, so maybe it will be open in 2017.

It's kind of weird, because a lot of the selling point of a retractable roof is that you can play on grass while having a roof to protect you from the heat/elements. But I don't think they ever intended for grass to be grown in the stadium. There was never going to be enough light for that to work. They could've easily built a dome and brought in grass on trays like they've been doing for the last decade. But somehow, playing on grass in a fixed dome stadium is "weird", even though NRG is a "dome" 99% of the time.

I actually think they didn't know how "difficult" it would be to keep grass alive in a stadium configuration such as this.

Thus, the trays were the compromise to keep the evil turf away.

Thing is ...there was a better compromise developed at Veltins Arena in Germany both opened in 2001, before NRG Stadium opened. Schalke's home ground has a field that rolls out underneath the stadium & stands, so there's no huge gap in the seating bowl.

It would appear that it's not happening, yet. Another season of problems and they would have to take a harder look at it.

Maybe it'll take the franchise QB getting hurt...wait don't have one.
Maybe it'll take the first overall pick getting hurt...scratch that, nope.
    Maybe it'll take opposing teams/players speaking out...nope.
    Maybe it'll take...

    Ahh you're out of luck!
