In light of the upcoming TV deal and what it will do to the salary cap, this isn't that bad a deal for the Warriors.
against the lakers though, can't put too much stock into it. We'll have to see how he performs moving forward
I think its a pretty decent signing considering his age and talent/skill set. Its not like GSW can go out and sign another star. His game complements Curry's. Yes he is a scorer but I think he is also an underrated defender.
No one on here is gonna knee jerk you on this one. One game where he shot ~75% after a contract signing, pretty sure that's not happening many times. It's still a fine signing after the soon to be Max is the soon to be norm, but he's no where near top 10.... Maybe close to top 10 young guy.
In today's market, it's an ok contract. Esp when Parsons and Hayward are making the Max. Klay is an elite shooter and defender, probably the 2nd best SG in the league.
Klay is a dead eye shooter and solid defender, but when his shots aren't falling there's nothing much else he can do. What separates him and Harden is if Harden's shot aren't falling, he can will his way to the FT line vice versa. Still, great for Klay to put up a show tonight right after inking in that fat contract. Great players tend to rise to the occasion.
In two years time, the max salary cap is going to be $90 million. If the Warriors weren't going to pay Klay, someone other team would have. Personally, I think Klay is a very high synergy guy, he can impact the game a ton without hardly ever taking a dribble--the type of player every championship team needs. After all, there is only one ball so we can't have five guys dribbling.
That's not necessarily true, the nba have sent a proposal to the players union that will keep the cap artificially low in return for all players to receive the difference via escrow. I'm not sure I'd play the "cap will be 90m" when its the teams trying to hold it lower.
This is almost as bad as the Parsons contract. Just be glad our conference rivals keep overpaying for roleplayers.
