Nike has "right of first refusal" anyway, so whatever UA could offer, all Nike has to do is offer $1 more and it's theirs.
Yes they do but not sure what harm it would have done to at least meet with UA knowing Nike would most likely match. Only thing I can think of is Nike offering a very nice take it or leave it deal.
If Chip Kelly and Nike come to Austin, does that mean UT will have a new disco uniform every week ala Oregon or Baylor?
No excuses being made but UT also has the 2nd toughest strength of schedule in the nation, 2nd only to BYU. I think this only helps Strong's case for a 3rd year but if TCU-like blowouts continue, which we could very well see with OU, West Virginia, and Baylor still on the schedule, anything can happen. Regardless of what happens with Strong, he will be forced to make changes to his staff for the 2nd time in 2 years. His personnel decisions have been very questionable and I would be very concerned about the talent he'd be able to pull considering the one and done risk of the job.
You can cite this kind of stuff all you want but the eye test is where Strong fails the most IMO. Just watching the games they seem disorganized and unprepared far too often. Also, if he has to constantly make changes to his staff because they underperform that is proof positive he's in over his head.
This is the most disheartening part. I think most people can live with the growing pains as long as we see progress. But the demeanor of the team, including Strong's, is the opposite of what we thought Charlie would bring. We looked completely lost and disinterested in both blowouts which is sad considering we had all summer to prep for ND. The game was also over after the first quarter against TCU, zero fight. I still think Strong will get his 3rd year and considering all the factors, it may be the right call. But if Chip Kelly is available, I'm not sure you can pass on him considering what Urban and Harbaugh are doing at OSU and Michigan respectively.

Better act now or y'all are gonna be left with scraps again. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/10/09/chip-kelly-to-usc-speculation-has-already-begun/
Unless Charlie turns things around next year, the next coach at Texas will be Tom Herman. The guy made his bones in the big 10 at a nationally recognized program. He is not going to stay in the American conference very long.
