Is this a sequel or spiritual cousin to Cloverfield? So many questions

I believe release date is pegged as 11 March 2016.

Supposedly a spiritual successor, related to the first movie.
Original sequel talks were about a different POV on the events of the day (would be lame); something exploring what happened with the thing crashing into the sea in the background of the final scene of the first movie; or something exploring the general idea and fleshing out the backstory.

Personally I would love something like the 3rd option - fleshing out the backstory behind the first movie

Looks interesting, I liked the original a lot. When the original movie came out there's a point that they see another person filming and, and they suggested this might be the perspective the sequel took. Looks like they went in a different direction; I'll watch...I'm a sucker.

Hmm....Synopsis trailer (boo) or misdirection (sweet JJ Abrams style)? It could be construed as psycho John Goodman keeping people brainwashed and kept in a bunker, and the big reveal is what she sees. (they must have a lot of food down there)

BTW, there's an OUTSTANDING book series in a similar vein called the Silo series (first book is Wool) by Hugh Howey. Highly, highly recommended, one of my favorite books/series of the past decade.

BTW, 'Cloverfield' was the street that Bad Robot is on (or something like that), so it could be completely unrelated to the Cloverfield movie.

Wait what? Cloverfield is one of my favorites of all time. This is awesome!

And thank god they didn't just rehash some unnecessary sequel. This actually looks different and interesting. I'm excited.

I just noticed that Ramona Flowers is in it. Sold.

    Non-bootleg trailer:

If you notice, John Goodman says 'Something is coming'...or 'Some thing is coming', which would play with the Cloverfield sequel theory, as the Cloverfield tag line was 'Some Thing Has Found Us'.

    Giant poster:

Awesome! I liked the mystery and the marketing behind the first one.

That would be the rejected M Night Shyamalan version of the script.

The secrecy of the original resulted in speculation about all sorts of Byzantine plot twists leading up to release. The actual plot was much more mundane and straightforward.

If it's digital handheld cameras. I'm out because of motion sickness. Otherwise, I'll have a look because Hollywood's most scrumdiddlyumptious eye candy is on offer.
