Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine 2h Mavs still have their $2.7 million room exception to offer Jameer Nelson and are hopeful of completing a deal with the veteran point Details Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine 2h ESPN sources say Mavs will be hosting free-agent point guard Jameer Nelson in Dallas for a face-to-face visit Thursday *************************************************** If Nelson can be had for only $2.7m, the Rockets need to make a run at him. Last year he averaged 12pts, 7asts, and 3rebs, although his shooting numbers were horrible, I think he could be a great fit as a 4th option and a reliable deep ball threat.
Bev was a more reliable 3pt threat. Canaan is basically Jameer lite on a cheaper contract with his baggage.
Jameer took over 100 more 3pointers during the season. I just dont see Beverly or especially Canaan ever averaging 7 assists per game. Beverly, for the time being, is a better fit coming off the bench until he learns the game a bit better. Year 1 as a starter was a success, and you wont find a bigger Bev fan than me, but being able to pick up a distributor of that caliber for $2.7m seems like a no-brainer.
Nelson actually averaged 11assists per 100 possessions, almost 3x as much as Beverly. So, in essence he assisted on 11% of the Magic's possessions. That is a solid number. As Mchale said, flexibility doesn't score points, and I can't see Dwight wanting to waste a year of his prime. We missed out on some other FA's we could have had already. Nelson, on the cheap, is another we should go after.
Nobody PG not even Nelson would average 7 APG with Harden here. It's not that kind of offense. Nelson is old and not worth holding back Canaan.
Worth, haha. I meant with. Ish Smith is also a great third option. I was sad when we traded him before. Glad he's back.
If they use the Room Exception on Jameer, they can't resign Marion, and we could use the MLE (or a portion of it) to get him. That would be a great move for us.
Jameer Nelson has shot 0.352 from downtown the last 3 years. It isn't really good enough to classify him as a 'spacing option' is it? Beverley career: 0.365 Canaan (DLeague): 0.387 (chucking up almost 10 a game - 40%+ at college level) Ish Smith: 0.043 (4.3% - smooth.)
Who'd of ever thunk that this offseason would come down to us bemoaning the loss of Jameer Nelson to another team
i'm intrigued at first with jameer, then i remembered that he had a hard time dumping the ball to dwight during their magic times...
I hate that we are surrounding our all-stars with with players with no NBA experience or they have NBA experience and have shown us they are mediocre. Nelson could help us and now he will probably be an evil Mav.
