I am positive that for the most part, ebbs and flows of financial cycles have little to with Executive politics.

The fact that the US Fed can print money like a madman but it diffuses around the planet among 7 billion people so as to be non-inflationary is a totally new phenomenon of Globalism and computerized money transactions. It is only feasible in a world of one Superpower with a military 10 times more powerful than any competitor.

The price of oil is most influenced by the one Energy Superpower that by virtue of it's natural resources can dictate, high or low, the price of the commodity as long as they are defended by that Superpower.

And while the world appears to be in a state of war and turmoil, that's mostly because we have a worldwide information system. There have probably always been the percentage of population/conflicts we see today and in fact, we are probably in a period of relative peace by a number of war deaths/population since there are no mass murdering world wide conflicts at the moment.

    Pax Americana if you will.

Every president should have lowering oil prices as their highest priority. It increases disposable income for everyone, causes massive economic growth, and severely weakens our enemies like Russia/Venezuela/Iran.

Sadly, Obama would prefer higher gas prices to discourage fossil fuel use.

He's enjoying the benefits of the fracking revolution he had nothing to do with, but his ungrateful ass will soon move to use the EPA to ban the practice.

Every president should make interfering with the market price of oil and driving it lower his highest priority.

Nice. Should he just nationalize/buy the oilfields and refineries then and sell it at a fraction of cost. That would **** the hell out of our enemies AND provide a huge boost to economic growth.

Congratulations genius, you solved a huge problem using science!

I think I has the same idea when I was like 9 years old and was trying to figure out how to get more transformers. What if there was a store where everything is free, wouldn't that be awesome?

I'm talking about eliminating government mandates/prohibitions that distort the market price of energy.

The gas tax, additive requirements, barriers to exploration and development, etc.

Would you support lifting the ban on exporting oil to Cuba? Or do you support those government prohibitions?

What? California had 47 EVs in the 80's, 54 in the 90's, 55 in the 00's and today. That means its population is not only growing but has also grown as a share of the total US population.

This is why it's always best to have a level-headed, non-partisan approach- it's just smart, and the opposite- the extremist view- is almost always stupid. The world just doesn't operate that way, and it amazes me how extremists just don't get it- or maybe they're being willfully ignorant. Either way, extreme conservatism and extreme liberalism are security blankets- and not very good ones, to boot.

I support those prohibitions. Why would we give oil to tyrants like the Castros?

Besides, lifting an export ban on Cuba would not reduce the price of energy for Americans.

Because you believe in market freedom and want to reduce government mandates and prohibitions? Seems your principles consistently fall short in real-world situations.

Don't you believe that market distortions cause market inefficiencies? In the free market world you claim to believe in, anything that creates less-than-free market would cause higher prices by creating less-than-optimal outcomes. If Cuba could import oil from the US instead of Venezuela, it would cut their shipping costs, driving down prices. Venezuelan oil could then be shipped to closer/cheaper places and on and on. That would reflect in the global price of oil.

Or you could explain how increasing EVs shows a decreasing population when the US population is rising.
