look i know the guy is athletic and his offensive skills are coming along nicely. He also rebounds really well. but there are tons of ways in which he gets exposed. Hill is our most capable (and only) shot blocker. every time someone heads towards the rim, he completely leaves his man and commits to blocking the shot. Sure it looks great if he gets a block, but this isn't solid defense. The angle that he should be taking should be such that he can still put a body on his man and he should only contest/block the shot if the original man can't recover. duncan is great at this. as a result, you'll often see hill come out of position and even though the original shot is missed, the other team gets an offensive rebound for an easy putback. you sort of see hill come out of position and bite on pump fakes way too easily. a great example was when he was matched up with brewer under the rim on the fast break. brewer just pumped once and got hill to jump 3 ft in the air and drew an and 1. it's awesome that hill is athletic enough to actually run back to cover that, but once the play comes down to brewer and hill at the rim, it shouldnt end in an easy and 1. don't get me wrong. i like hill. i think he has a lot of potential. but he has a TON to work on, and it's mostly decision making rather than skill or effort. he has weaknesses that aren't quite as obvious as those of hayes or miller, but it is insane for people to think hill not getting playtime is the reason this team hasn't gotten off to a good start.
Wasn't really worth making your own thread, but I'm not one to whine about thread rules. Hill needs to be in the game to learn from his mistakes. Games are different then practice. Thats Why you play Jordan. And even with all his flaws, he's still the best weak side defender on the team.
my point is not really that hill should or shouldn't play. its just that he has weaknesses just like our other bigs and that our record isnt a result of adelman having a bad rotation and not playing hill enough.
Its time to get serious about rebuilding my friend. You can stop defending this mess of a team. Trade the veterans, let the young guys play. Otherwise you're doomed to mediocrity because THIS TEAM IS NOT WINNING A TITLE AS CONSTRUCTED.
So your statement is that because Hill doesn't leave people wide-open for a layup, he should be benched. Excellent analysis. I'm sure flat-footed Brad Miller should play 48 minutes then.
If Noah can play, then Hill can too. Adelman is being stupid by not playing him a lot more...especially with Yao out. My comfort foods thread strikes again. DD
Hill, 5 rebound in 5 minutes. but Rockets lost 8 rebounds to Bulls. Seriously, for the rebounding only, Hill should play a lot.
Unchain the ANIMAL -- let him devour boards and attack the rim with ferocity and a lack of regard for human life. Free J. Hill.
were 3-7 and Hill still isnt getting experience. He has to make mistakes in order for him to get better, which in the end makes our team better and the mistakes he makes are not detrimental to the team. Now overplaying Chuck Hayes when the matchup is not in his favor is detrimental to the team.
The fact of the matter that I find EXTREMELY upsetting is this: Hill has put together a string of decent games with the minutes he has. Yes he makes mistakes. However he tries hard and frankly we aren't a worse team with him on the floor. We're still good, damn good. Yet he is benched. And why is he benched? Because Miller SUDDENLY shows semblance of an offensive game. Never mind his continually poor defense and complete lack of rebound prowess. No, despite his poor games before this, suddenly Adelman feels like "I have old Miller back" and promptly restricts Hill's minutes, DESPITE the fact that Hill has been coming along nicely. It's just prejudice and frankly I don't like it. If Hill is playing like complete trash then yes bench him by all means. But that should apply to Miller as well, even if he's a veteran. And Adelman's tendency to play favorites is costing us games.
The main thing I am thinking why Adelman doesn't want to play Hill, is that boy gets Fouls as quick if not faster then he does rebounds. Late in games, that will kill you. That being said, he should still see more playing time.
Chuck Hayes, Luis Scola and Brad Miller make just as many mental mistakes as Hill does... Get a clue Adelman.
is this another Jordan Hill thread? didn't you see this thread? http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=5724855#post5724855
jordon has his limitations, but i think RA should have played him a little bit more, give him 15-20 minutes a game would be ok. tonight our second unit, technically should call it our third unit did really bad, jordon hill is one of them... Brad is playing great, but he can't play 30+ minutes every night....
I think the reduction in Hill's minutes has less to do with Hill's performance and more to do with the need for offense from the perimeter with both Brooks and Budinger out. Unlike Hill, Miller gives the team another outside shooting threat. Hill may get more minutes on the second night of back-to-backs, but overall I expect his minutes to stay down and Miller's to stay up until we get Brooks and/or Budinger back.
Is that what I said? What I said was that Hill doesn't play sound defense (which is damn true) and that he has a bunch of shortcomings, just like our other bigs. I have never said that I don't think that Hill should be playing. What I am saying is that playing Hill more will not improve our record. Now if people wanna throw in the towel 10 games into the season and say that we should give him minutes to develop him, that's a different argument. The thing is that there are a ton of guys that seem to think Hill is a savior waiting on the bench and Adelman is unfair in not playing him. I'm just saying that there are reasons not to play Hill and I think Adelman is just trying to give the team the best chance to win. Honestly the offense looks a lot nicer when Brad Miller is out there cause he can generate offense from the high post. Hill is athletic and has a decent hook shot, but you can tell he's not comfortable making decisions in the high post like Miller is. Also, people need to stop overreacting and stop over-analyzing everything. The reason we lost tonight was because we had bad offensive possessions in the fourth (with some extremely bad luck on those 5 pts that got pulled back) and the Bulls made a ton of 3s in the fourth, with most of those being shots that I'm ok with them taking. Derrick Rose misses 1 of his 3s and the scorekeeper starts the clock a fraction of a second later and we win the game and everyone talks about how gutsy and clutch this Rockets team is.
