I say either extend his contract immediately so he can start to think about some near long-term plan for the team or make him a Paul Westhead before he is about to become a Rick Carlisle.

When you have one of the best wing players ever to play the game paired with one of the best centers ever, you have to expect to win now, especially since McGrady will soon lose his explosiveness and scoring ability due to injuries.

If you want to let the McGrady-Yao combo go to waste, and the chance to bring in 2-3 championships within the next 5 years, then feel free to support the development of players such as VSpan and Novak that have NO guarantee to become stars in the future.

Yea, lets develop our young players while we are winning. I think JVG has given Novak and VSpan their fair share of minutes, and they haven't produced. Outside of one good game, VSpan hasnt dont much with his minutes, and Novak is pretty much a one trick pony. He was drafted in the 2nd round for a reason. Lets not forget that JVG's hands were pretty much tied by the signings of CD and Rudy T when he came on board. So with those restrictions, do you really think another coach can do much more? Lets also not forget that JVG has done a WONDERFUL job of developing YAO MING. I do recall a majority of members on here wanting him to be a face up type player. Look at how Yao is now. Im really lost that so many can complain when we are having a great season. Again I am just .

Are VSpan and Novak much worse than Devean George and Mark Madsen in their rookie years in LAL (Championship years, btw)?

you got to be serious to know how they'll be with the time they have gotten...its not like we're asking to play all of them at the same time but atleast put one of them in every now then with the starters and allow them the chance to succeed...coming in during garbage time isnt going to teach these guys anything..

do you think yao would be the player he is now with a couple a min once or twice a week during garbage time...i mean cmon...we are going to need these guys eventually and im sure they can do better than JL3 out there jacking up shot after shot...

and its not even that...its to allow our starters rest from time to time...i mean juwan and deke have been doing well but playing them 35 plus min a night would make them less affective at the end of games and during the stretch run for the playoffs..

So glad that Rudy T did not give Sam Cassell any minutes during his rookie year....

    Oh wait....

ROFLOL - Yeah, you mean the player that JVG didn't want, and was FORCED to play because of injuries.

Uhhhhh...if history is any indicator, JVG would not be playing Luther this year either.....if Luther never got a chance to prove himself ON THE COURT.

    Unlike the Rookies this year.

That's the difference between NBA READY players like Sam Cassell, who have eat, drank, slept and breathed the American game from the time they were old enough to pick up a ball, all the way up to through high school, then enrolled and EXCELLED at the highest levels of NCAA basketball during it's absolute halcyon days...........................................................................................................and second round Euro scrubs who barely speak the language, live with their mom and eat gyros every night, turn the ball over a lot, are too slow, and can't shooot worht ****.

That's why I think you are stupid for insisting otherwise previously, and why you are incapable of rational thought or discourse on this and many other issues.

Why don't you recount this history then, and tell us why Frederic Weis deserved minutes. Or just admit that you're a dumbass and save yourself some time.

Luther was getting minutes from game 1, even before the injuries.

You may in fact be a complete dumbass for many other reasons which I know or don't know, but if you think Phil Jackson played these two scrubs a lot during their rookie years, you're an even bigger dumbass. Devean George averaged 7 minutes per game, in 45 games. He played in ONE NBA finals game, for a grand total of THREE minutes. Madsen averaged 9 minutes in 70 games, with a hideous 9.2 PER. In the finals he played in an astounding TWO games for THREE total minutes.

During their rookie years, he brought in ANCIENT veterans, I'm talking AC Green, Ron Harper, John Salley, HOrace Grant, Bryan Shaw, JR Rider, as he does every year, and played them FAR more than these two chumps did. THese guys were almost NOTHING in their rotations. THey were pocket change. Afterthoughts. Nobodies. Nothing. Mop up losers who played for veteran teams when they were up 40 points in the 4th period.

As Phil Jackson himself said "you win with men" in response to a question as to why he would NOT play rookies, and was WELL KNOWN for not playing rookies.

If you're looking to Phil Jackson as the example of a coach who "develops young players" by giving rookies a lot of PT - let me say this:

You're a complete moron, because that is not what happens in reality.

Seriously wnes, admit it, it's just true. You can either take it back or just live with the stigma of being a complete moron. THe choice is yours.

I agree with you and unlike other fans on here I don't change my mind every time someone brings up love/hate JVG threads!! after all these wins and 25-15 record with a great season first time after 1997 season some fans on here talk about calling it quits and talk about how bad JVG is after looking at how good we're doing this season. JVG is doing a great job in general and im not talking about how he's doing game by game, im saying in overall so far this season. I really really feel sorry for these fans who can't see where we are today from last season or two years ago and it's up to you if you want to believe it or not but its JVG who got us here and from now on im not even going to respond to a thread that bashes JVG after every single game. I just feel very sorry for fans who start negative thread about JVG after every game we lose and I feel even more sorry for fans who agree and later change their view when we win 4 or 5 games in a row when someone creates a thread giving praises to JVG!

He's ok as long as he doesnt know you are wrong about something.

    Then lookout

As condescending as he is sometimes...ok....ALOT of the time...He is dead on right here.

The logic and memory of the "play rookies now club" is in doubt, and Sam never misses a chance to dog wnes whenever he can. (who actually deserves it in this case)

Just to be accurate, Cassell didn't get ANY minutes until the last third of the season. Scott Brooks was our primary backup point guard for most of the year. There were a few injuries and Cassell got some minutes.

But, the reason Cassell played wasn't because he could run a team. He actually didn't do that very well. He played because he could shoot, particularly from the three point line, and he played well under pressure.

It wasn't because Rudy wanted to give him a shot to see how he would do. He put him in there both by necessity and because Cassell could help the team win right then and there.

66 games played with an average of 17 minutues equals the last third of the season?

It looks like he and Scott Brooks basically split time as Brooks played 73 games and averaged 16+ minutes.

Still the backup PG got some minutes.....

And to prove my point even FURTHER....Rudy had 10 players that contributed more than 10 minutes a game......JVG --- well, he is short. Look at Matt Bullards minutes......couldn't Novak do at least that?

I don't know what stats you are looking at but he became a rotation player by Game 4 of that year......GAME 4 Sam !!

It is unproven whether Sam Cassell was more ready, because everything is not the same.....

An apples to apples argument can not be made nor won.

Are you saying that JVG is as good a coach as Rudy T? Because I think Rudy was a much better motivator, and was willing to trust his guys a bit more.....probably because....oh...he actually PLAYED the game.... !!!!
