I have extra time and would like to pursue another career. Im looking for something that's in great demand and not in the medical field. Ive heard good stuff about engineering. Give an entry level job, 2 year, and 4 year degree if possible.
All the sure money is in the medical field. I have been very lucky practicing law but it is a hit or miss field. In Texas the energy sector is a good one.
The space industry (NASA, SpaceX, Orbital, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, etc) is extremely fulfilling and gratifying. The pay, while below that of the oil & gas, medical, and financial industries, is not bad. More importantly, you really have a sense that you are making history. I have accomplished things over the last 12 years that make both me and my family proud. I can look at a particular space shuttle mission or ISS expedition and know exactly what my contributions were. You don't have to be an engineer or otherwise very technically proficient to get started. Just find an entry level position, work hard, and grow within your niche. If you are in the Houston area, start by checking the websites of these JSC contractors for open opportunities. Good luck! http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/about/people/contractorlist.html
Do your best to get drafted by the Rockets in the 1st round. Then tweet your way out of having to work.
Are you in the medical field already and is that why you want something else? Saw a story on the news this morning and it reports that 28% of new jobs by 2020 will be in the field of health care administration.
Don't believe that ****. Every community college in this planet is pumping 30 students a semester for each field.
And everyday more and more baby boomers are getting old and in need of care. I would say engineer. Learn to build low cost water pumps & wells for third world countries. Spend the rest of your life giving back to the world that has given so much to you.
Housewife and cook Keep preaching that people. We need to brainwash the women folk back into the '50s.
If you're in Texas, especially Houston, get into the energy/oilfield industry. I would go for something in sales and learn as much as you can about the product/service. If you're looking for a new career, I'd guess you're close to 30 years old and it would be extremely tough to start in the medical field. Maybe in Mexico.
I'm 46 and just started in the health care field. Got a BA from a medical school in a specialized area and start work next month.
