I like Berkman a lot, but it just doesnt make sense unless:

    1) The money we sign him for doesn't prohibit us from any other financial move or moves in the future.

    2) No "no trade" clauses in his contract

    3) No other younger healthier player becomes available in his price range

    1) It won't

    2) I don't really care about

    3) Eh. I'm a little tired of the young players. I want a veteran. I wants Berkman.

I can see the vet angle. But do you really think there is much tread left on his tires?

I don't know. I hope he does. I want him to get to 400, which would require 2 more seasons.

Brian T. Smith (@ChronAstros): Luhnow said Wednesday that #Astros have several potential deals on table, including trades for DH. With roster at 39, fun's just begun. #MLB

Good to have him back. I'm actually very happy with our potential bullpen.

Mickey Storey could be our closer.

I doubt it, since they did cut him not long ago.

Count me as one that doesn't like the idea of dealing for a "true DH." To me, you use the DH spot for someone like a young player that might be without a true position or for someone who is blocked at his position.

Just like a closer, a true DH is a luxury item for a team that is ready to contend, like Edgar Martinez back when the Mariners were contenders or David Ortiz when the Red Sox were winning championships. It's not really a piece I think the Astros should be spending a lot of time trying to acquire.

Press conference with Luhnow for today at 2. Berkman, perhaps? Probably wishful thinking, but press conferences with the GM aren't exactly a routine thing, especially in the offseason.

I'd like to ask everyone to please not treat this thread like it's the Astros forum until the season starts. No one will see news buried in this thread. Thanks...

On the other hand, as an Astros fan in another country, very little baseball news makes it over here. Clutchfans is an awesome tool for me.

My favourite thing about this thread every year is that every bit of news is in it. I can check out for a month or 2 in the offseason, come back and just read this thread through and be up to date.

I agree big stories should have their own thread, but I notice all the Pena posts have been removed from this thread, I don't think it should be a bad thing to mention it in this thread, or have left some reference to it in this thread for us who like to use it to catch up :)

Not sure if I made my point well lol, but thanks if you understand me
