Remember when Alexander said he wanted to go run-and-gun for the next 10 years a couple years back? He thought it could be a winning strategy even though the best at it in recent history (D'antoni Suns) showed it is not likely? In my opinion, that along with Morey's FTs and 3pt emphasis are holding us back. In the playoffs you cannot rely on quick baskets. It has been stressed many times that it is McHale and or Morey, but it all starts with big guy upstairs!
Run and Gun? pshh... we don't even run that. Harden walks the ball slowly then chucks it with plenty of time on the clock.
The refs wouldn't let Nash's Suns get to the finals. Dude was even power slammed into the side table and bloodied and the league didn't do anything. Maybe the league doesn't like run-n-gun.
Don't leave out his patented plan B.... Hold the ball, until 3secs or less are left on the clock, before passing it off to either Lin or Parsons....
Nothing wrong with our gangbusters style of offense. But when opponents take it away, we have to be good at halfcourt offense too. Sadly we though Howard would fix it as well as our dribble drive penetration. But Howard is flawed and teams can just camp in the paint to stop our dribble drives. This is where Adelman's (cough-cough) Princeton offense would have been useful. No, not get Adelman back. Chris Finch knows his playbook having coached the same system when he was with the Vipers the last year of Adelman's tenure. All those back-cuts and cross-screens, slick passes, multiple actions simultaneously (hey, if a guy like Chuck Hayes could get a triple-double, it works mighty fine). Would Morey allow them to depart from the 3s and frees offense? Do they need to ask Morey? Too complicated to learn on the fly. It has to be for next season.
Run and gun & 3's & Paint are fine but you need some sort of halfcourt offense to get you those shots. We can't just out-iso people like we have the fastest PG in the league and a 6'11 SF with SG skills who can hit contested jumpers over centers.
Les? Daryl Morey is the brainchild behind the offense. He even hired a assisstant coach that reinforce it
Yeah like DD said, they need to really just work on being the best P&R team they can be. There is alot they can do with different cuts and back screens in P&R sets other than just have guys stand around. Stand around on offense.... that's pretty much the motto in the McHale sets. I'd like to see a little more deliberate movement off the ball to help Harden & Lin out. They are very creative players, but they still need a little more help off the ball. Run & Gun... They really aren't a true run & gun team, but they do play at a fast pace & get shots earlier in the shot clock. I wouldn't change anything about that... especially in the regular season. But their half court sets could use a little work.
That's right! This season, it held us back to one of the best records in franchise history! SOOOOO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!
