During the lofty heights of the Barkley era, the Rockets did reach .500 as a franchise... I think it was even in the Clutch Recap of the game. Get searching, A-Train.
yeah, and I think they have beeter then a 11 -51 record. plus, they've won and lost more then those number of games.
I found it interesting that (excluding the "*" teams), the Suns have the best record for a franchise which has never one a championship. Like the Orlando Magic, they have both been there.
I thought the Baltimore Bullets and the Washington Wizards were the exact same franchise. The Baltimore Bullets moved a few miles and Became the Washington Bullets which just recently became the Washington Wizards.
I'm sure they are older franchises, (denver nuggets 11-51 and the baltimore bullets 158-292) The Clippers are up there, two below the Timberwolves, at 925-1667. The other Denver Nuggets are also up there below Golden State, at 964-1136. Plus the number of games that the Washington Wizards have, it includes their illustrious history as the Bullets (1523-1796). I'll see if I can find a basketball-reference.com type of page which goes into more detail.
I hope you find it because I would like to know. I thought the Nuggets actually started as the Denver Rockets in the ABA and since joinging the NBA the Franchise has always been the Denver Nuggets. I am unaware of a Denver Nuggets team back in the early days of the NBA but who knows.
OK I found the history of the Baltimore Bullets. I don't know how accurate this site is but here it is: http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=6&q=http://www.tealdragon.net/sports/bullets.htm&e=912 It shows the Baltimore Bullets closing shop in 1954 and then starting again in 1963 I guess as a different organization. Baltimore won the title in their firts year of operation. Here is another link incase anyone is interested. http://www.nba.com/history/
Heres something I found on the net. When the NBA was formed in 1949, the original Denver Nuggets (who bore no relationship to the later franchise, aside from the name) played in the Western Divison. Their rivals included such franchises as Sheboygan and Waterloo. Denver, led in scoring by Kenneth Sailors with 17.3 points per game, struggled to an 11-51 record and met its own waterloo during the offseason when the club folded after just one year. 1967-69: Denver Once Rooted For The Rockets The pro game resurfaced 18 years later in the Mile High City for the 1967-68 season, this time in the form of the ABA's Denver Rockets. (became the Nuggets)
