I am a big hakeem fan and think of him as a top 5 center of all time. Was chatting w/ a friend and were discussing his biggest weakness... Thoughts? Ps. I voted that it was his moves/finishes w his left hand.
He could have brushed up on his blindfolded hookshot from the parking lot out side of the Summit. His handcuffed/straightjacket dreamshake under water with 150 pound wieghts attached around a belt on his hip was a tad slow.
early on I would say his trouble passing out of the double team - but later he excelled in that area. I can't think of any other issues other than not smacking Barkley in the nose every time Chuck chunked up a three.
i don't consider it a weakness per se, but the only flaw in hakeem's career was that after the 96/97 season, he became injury prone and only averaged playing in about 52 games a season until he retired after the 01/02 season.
yes he would reach in on smaller players and try to get steals this would result in many stupid fouls.
I would have to say his inability to grow 2 more inches, making him that much more dominant. If you could have just worked on that more
Fouls. Hakeem would often get in foul trouble and have to back off until the final push in the fourth. It was not unusual for him to have 5 fouls at the finish.
He didn't have alot of other glaring weaknesses, like other centers. Shaq -------------------------- *Poor FT shooter *Liability late in games *Defense was sort of average at times *Shooting range is not that comparable to other big men *he will miss at least 15 - 32 games every season, and he is usually not seriously injured. Russell --------------------------- *Was slightly above average scorer, not really offensive threat like many other great or even good centers. *Shooting range Walton ------------------------------- Often injured Not really as dominated as people make him out to be Wilt --------------------------------- *Bad FT shooting again *In clutch situations, some say he had reputation for not taking control of the game or going after the championship in the last seconds of an important game *Overconfidence - you would be too if you managed to score 100 points in game and 50 ppg for the whole season. (it's not really weakness) *Shooting range D.Robinson ------------------------------ *Great player, but disappeared in crucial playoff series. *People sort gave him the labeled him as "soft"... *Compared to other great centers, he was sort of weaker rebounder *he did have tendacy to disapper against other great centers or pfs. * he is more athletic and shorter version of you know who.
