That was more than a full season in the past. Belt could drop off a cliff too, but he’s been good more recently than Abreu and is younger. Singleton has never been good.
I know the bullpen is gassed, I know he probably took one for the team, but letting Hunter get historically abused like that can't be good.
Are there directions on when to push the panic button. If this continues they could eliminate themselves from the race before the season really gets going. Too early? Turnaround a few times and suddenly you are twenty games out of first with no sign of daylight.
A team could start 0-20 and it still wouldn’t necessarily be time to panic if they still projected to be a talented team. But a team can dig a hole and imho it’d be time to panic at: <5 wins after 30 games <10 wins after 40 games <20 wins after 60 games <35 wins after 80 games
No - hopefully he was embarrassed and will have pride and comeback the next time he has a chance. The issue isn’t leaving Brown out there - the issue is him not even competing and not even getting to the second inning. Guys like Brown, Areighetti and Henley need to realize no one is going to figure it out for them. Javier needs to realize that going 5 isn’t going to cut it at 70-80 pitches. He is going to go out for the 6th because he is a starter and is paid like one. It isn’t panic time - but it can become panic time soon if they don’t get their head out of their ass. If Abreu isn’t hitting close to what he is supposed to - sign Belt or play someone that will compete. Abreu can be a great guy and be upset- but this isn’t the time for hurt feelings mattering. I’m sure Dubon or Loperfido will gladly play first if needed.
This team is on pace for 46 wins through the first three-ish weeks. I refuse to believe they're that bad, but their run differential and pitching stats actually back up the record, and all but one of their wins was within 2 runs.
