Added incentive for Stefon Diggs: As part of the Buffalo-Houston trade, the Texans wiped out the final three years on Diggs’ contract, giving him the ability to become a free agent after this season, league sources tell ESPN. The Texans also took the $3.5 million guaranteed to Diggs next season and moved up into this season, giving him a raise and assuring him of $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024. But if Diggs plays the way he wants, and Houston hopes, he will hit the free-agent market next offseason with the ability to make it count. Houston now anticipates getting the best version of Stefon Diggs
who are you saying made the concession? texans or diggs? texans get more cap space for next year (nico extension) and diggs gets a chance at more money
A high 2nd (say 33-40?) for a possible rental. On the other hand, if he’s a locker room cancer as everyone says []…
I'm with you. I worry about a guy that gets nearly 10 targets per game on a winning team having any drama around him. Feel like these deals rarely work out well.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. A possible high second-round pick for a one-year rental?! That's a steep price for the long term.
I feel you on the concern because now this is a contract year. Diggs needs the ball lol. On the other hand he must not be a cancer because... it's a contract year so... we will see.
Hmm not sure how I feel about this. I liked the leverage we had..the ball was in our court to keep him around if he played well while also having the ability to cut him loose with no consequence if he didn't. Hopefully this doesn't backfire where he becomes a malcontent if he's getting less touches because he's chasing that big contract. It could motivate him to be on his best behavior or go the other way.
It feels like once you’ve decided how you feel on a person then you just make everything fit that narrative.. and if you don’t like their personality or their agent then you find any ways to lessen their field abilities as well.. 4 straight pro bowls the last one being in a down year doesn’t matter? Getting a brand new OC mid season that literally only wanted to run the ball doesn’t matter? Having basically the same stats as Nico while dropping off a cliff in the second half doesn’t matter? Dude has been a top 10 receiver the last 4 years and is definitely a #1 receiver… on most teams. When Nico sucked you said it was only injury, or bad qb play, but if Diggs is playing bad, it’s only him and not a terrible OC that kept the ball from him. I don’t know if he’ll end up being the #1 or #3 on this team, but we don’t need to downplay his abilities just because you love Nico so much. I’m not sure about in the locker room, as I’ve said, but I’m not worried at all about his ability on the field.
