This is a great trade for the Astros. Graveman has been elite this year. Montero for Smith is a wash. An elite closer for a backup infielder is a great deal regardless of either of their contract status. Dusty has his hands full with who to use as a closer. Press has been very good but Graveman has been better this year. Good problem to have.
Yea they know they ain’t catching us, so other than our head to head games, we really aren’t competing against each other this year
Their numbers show they ain't a playoff team, and their management knows it. They aren't going to pay Graveman. This is not their year and they know it.
https://sodomojo.com/2021/06/19/kendall-graveman-blog-red-machine-offer/ Interesting Seattle blog commentary on a hypothetical trade from a month ago. They were very turned off by the #22 prospect of the Reds, and wanted something more akin to Chapman or Britton — multiple ranked prospects.
We really do need reliever help right. Trading Toros for a better chance of making and winning WS is definitely worth it. We’re talking about potentially a lock down 8th/9th inn guy comparing to bench player for us next few years. We did great guys. Excited about the bullpen again. Some more work to be done by Mr. Click but excited to see who else coming by Friday afternoon.
I think this is a fair deal both ways. Losing Toro hurts...he’s going to be a MLB caliber player, and an affordable one at that, for several more years. He seems like he could be a ~.280/20hr/80rbi guy if he gets consistent ABs. Gravaman is an elite RP this year, and short of too notch prospects, this is just the cost of doing business. I trust our FO can replicate the Toros to help us nab the pen help we needed. Good deal both ways, no one got fleeced.
Great, great trade. Good job, Click. This is the type of "win now" deal that he had to make, and he made it. I am still hoping for one more move, but even with only this move I am thrilled.
Why is everyone saying he's a rental? Can we not sign him in the offseason or is he going to be too expensive?
I want to get rid of Raley so bad. I hope Stanek, Taylor, and Abreu turn their **** around. They should be on notice.
He could be an all-start but where would you play him moving forward? Move Breg to SS and Toro at 3B next year? I don’t think that’s what Astros FO has in mind as a replacement for Correa. I’m rooting for Toro and hope he does well but not when he’s playing against us.
Why do you say that? He has a career .626 OPS and his hitting has remained about the same. I see him a fringe starter for a bad team, or maybe a mediocre utility player.
