Imagine you work for a company and you decide to tweet( using your name, phone number and where you work) something critical about your company's major partner....... How long do you think you will be employed? Attrocities are happening in Africa, South America, In America, but Morey decides to tweet an opinion that hurts his employers bottom line... Cmon guys, Morey ****ed up. Admirable that he felt the need to support, but for a genius, this was a dumb move.... Unless he wants to get fired.
I support Morey's right to freely express himself without persecution from the state. However, all speech is subject to economic and social consequences with regard to the response they engender. If Morey were to say get fired for this tweet, I don't really see it as a violation of his first amendment right. That being said, it would set a dangerous precedent since the NBA would basically imply that any significant commercial partner can make the NBA their b**** if league personnel make comments that they don't like.
Fortune favors the bold and Morey is a hero for many now! He has gone beyond lowly american sports management and touched the world! This is BIGGER THAN BASKETBALL and Morey is in the history books now! Fortuna Favet Fortibus
Sure, I agree that free speech has it's limits. We should be careful of what we put out into the public. However, this isn't an issue when you're absolutely, unequivocally correct. Which Morey is. It's the side we should all stand on.
Morey's a good GM. He got us Harden and Westbrook and is serious about winning a chip. If he's let go over this China bullshit, then that move will be more damaging to the Rockets organization than his tweet. Kowtowing to an authoritarian, communist rival government is just a bad look.
There sure are a lot of new "fans" who never seemed to care to let us know how cool and important and necessary China is to the Rockets until today. If China decides to ban the entire NBA tomorrow all the billionaires who own the teams would still be billionaires and all the millionaire players will still be millionaires. They would just have somewhat less than they previously had.
Seriously this place is like a forking carnival the last few days and you keep getting introduced to strangers like some kind of high school reunite party when you are in the 40s, Except you don’t even remember anyone of them of even able to find it from any alumni publications. This is more exciting sh’t than having a blind date from match.com.
So the argument is they are already rich so they shouldn’t care? Would you be OK to accept a 10% pay cut due to a co-worker’s Twitter that he/she never told you about?
Came here to say this. This is the thread the board has been waiting for. The whole time this has been going on all I've been asking myself is, "But where does pippsux stand on the issue?" I am so relieved to finally have my answer.
