... er, not Hillary's. And I like the excuse.... she didn't know. Must not have been reading news the year leading up to daddy's election.
We've all been told by many of those that now support Trump how serious this is. I'm sure people at her Dad's rallies will be bringing back that old familiar chant.
https://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.ph...ate-email-for-all-state-dept-business.263152/ 118 page thread yall. Hopefully, we can get this thread at least to 100, we need to show the same amount of concern here and take this seriously.
The fact that Ivanka is sending hundreds of emails about government business is outrageous on its own.
I get the comparison, but honestly the problem is bigger than Ivanka and Hillary. Every effer in Washington is flouting the law regarding how government business is to be conducted. And even if they do nothing else wrong, by not following the rules they give cover to other people who circumvent the law to engage in corruption. I really, really don't like it. The willful destruction of official records is punishable by up to 3 years in prison -- it should be the same for hiding them.
Start by prosecuting ANYONE breaking the law - you want to know why people don't trust the government because they don't follow the same laws as the rest of us......Democrats or Republicans......so even though the Dems are much more law abiding than Repubs....you get some cover for the Repubs by having a few on the Dems side. Corruption is NOT equal at the moment - the hypocrisy is mostly one sided, but when you have 90 republicans breaking the law and 10 dems - the propaganda makes it feel equal. Start by going after everyone equally. DD
Keep in mind it was Collin Powell who advised Hillary on using private email for certain correspondences for a few different reasons (even some well intentioned reasons). Meaning this is an issue that goes back to the post 9/11 days and Bush era surveillance and the institution of the freedom of information act. Whether it’s private email used for good intentions or to grift off the record, Congress probably needs new legislation to clean up the lanes of where and when you can use private email and police it better. Otherwise it’ll just continue to be abused on one side and used to destroy the other side politically with endless investigations. If the House didn’t have its hands full or the Dems also controlled the Senate, Ivanka could be strung out like Hillary was which might not even be fair to Ivanka given her incompetence and intentions. Tackle this issue head on so it’s not abused on either side in the future.
I have a work email and a personal gmail. I imagine most of us do. The number of times in the last decade I've conducted business through my personal email can be counted on one hand. And even then, it's because someone found that contact info of mine, or a work contact became a personal friend and the wrong email address was used for the subject matter. The thing is... it's SUPER easy. There's not a lot of black and white even. I know which goes where, and have no problems figuring that out. Not that it would matter either way in my case, but it's still super easy. Whether she knew the details of the law or not, given how easy this should be for everyone, regardless of profession, there's clearly reasons someone would use their personal email instead of work, if to do work business.
I'll keep that in mind, but I don't see how it makes any difference at all. If there are legitimate concerns that officials have that drive them to use private email, we can tweak the legislation to address them. But all I see is people trying to avoid accountability -- Clinton, Powell, Ivanka, and the rest of them. And, so far as I can tell, there isn't really much of any enforcement mechanism to enforce compliance or punish non-compliance. Clinton flagrantly defied the law and was not held accountable (not even talking about whatever classified info she handled or mishandled) apart from losing my one meaningless vote. Agree with you more legislation is needed, but not really to address where private email is appropriate. It's not appropriate. To @JayZ750's point, Corporate America routinely keeps company and private email separate with no problems.
They are a whole lot more than that... let's not sell their disgusting, distasteful, lying, cheating, behavior short. Also this isn't now, been that way for as long as I can remember.
My basic point in most discussions is that we really don't need any new laws We simply need to consistency apply and enforce the laws we have now . Selective Enforcement of the Law is IMO the #1 problem in this country Rocket River
I don't disagree. But, I googled around a bit for what the law says about using private channels for government business. From what I understand it says that agencies shall provide a way for entering such communications into the public record, but that there actually isn't any kind of charge to bring against rule-breakers. They passed an anti-corruption law without any enforcement mechanism. It's basically hand-waving so they can tell voters they have transparency. So, in this case it looks like we do have consistent application of the law -- nothing happens to Powell, nothing happens to Clinton, nothing happens to Rice, and nothing happens to Ivanka Trump.
If she sent classified information via private email then she should suffer the consequences. Of course it appears the consequences of doing that are simply the FBI director dismissing it as carelessness. In all seriousness she should not be doing that and should get in trouble for it. If there was no classified information sent then I do not believe she should be "locked up" but she should receive some type of reprimand. If she did send classified information then she should receive the full punishment of the law.
My main point was that this isn't a new problem, and goes back to the Bush administration. Policing it needs a fresh take & likely new legislation. I have a low appetite for going back and discussing how wrong Hillary was to use a private server, and I would have very little appetite if the Dems had enough control & low enough scandals to investigate to bring Ivanka in for endless hearings & launch investigation after investigation. The way its policed now obviously creates an avenue to both feel emboldened to do it yourself, and also creates an avenue for endless politicizing of it if you have a desperate shameless party that wants to play gotcha with the power of Congress.
... a third private email account used? But I sure feel better knowing trump white house is looking into this...
