Lol. No one is mad about trying to establish the run. People are upset that the Texans ran up the middle basically every first down. Maybe be go off tackle and take advantage of Miller and Chubbs aggressiveness? Maybe a little RPO? Maybe some quick passes to JThomas? Just mix it up...that’s all we ask for.
b.o.b's burner account? =) I've been wanting less shot gun all season. Today was a good balance of under center and shotgun uggs. but you just can't run it up the middle on first down 85%, not in the NFL. There are other plays to run off other than "dive". The run does set up the pass when you play action but here is the thing. You didn't see it the second half.
That's fair. I guess my trauma from kris Brown, Neil Rackers, and Randy Bullock make me a little too tough on our recent kickers.
What a cliched, overblown, heap of nonsense. Run the ball to set up the pass?? In the era of analytics, it's all about variance, and keeping the defense guessing. Running the ball up the middle with your slow-plodding, slow-processing 2nd string RB on every single ****ing first down of the game is keeping NOBODY guessing. It's the defense, and the Watson-Hopkins connection that has won us games these last few weeks. I'm hoping and expecting that getting Coutee back, letting DT acclimate to the offense, and getting healthy in key positions is what's going to propel us in the second half of the season.
set up what pass? we never passed on 1st down. We got to 2nd and 8 every time and had to pass it into heavy coverage then. And of course we did it against Jacksonville and Miami. It was working then. when it doesn't work you don't keep doing it.
Seems like our backs averaged 1 yard a carry. But Demaryius played well the first two drives. I don’t know why went went away from him. Maybe that’s all he knew of the offense. We definitely should’ve been getting many targets trying to prove his former team wrong. No doubt Keke should add another huge target for Watson. Jordan Thomas emerging should make this offense very scary. If Demaryius returns, we get offensive tackles, this team is Super Bowl bound.
If my ciphering is correct, the Texans called running plays on 17 first downs and gained a total of 35 yards on those plays. Those include 2 that were called back due to Houston penalties. Of those runs, only three resulted in a gain of 4 or more yards (2 additional for 4+ were on the penalty plays). They called 11 pass plays and gained 122 yards on those plays. They include a couple of scrambles by Watson.
Good win. Watson played well despite a less than poor offensive line that got beat up to boot. Hope to get Cunningham and JJO healthy through the bye to get this defense to an even higher gear. Let the good times roll
Of course it's true, if you run play action or rpos, running the ball without a doubt opens up the passing game. You must not watch the rams play much, there offense is based on the running game/playaction, and they're only the highest scoring offense in the league. Same thing with the patriots. Their offense is so much better when Michel is running the ball 20-25 times a game. Turnovers will cost you games. You pass the ball 20 more times and you run the risk of turning the ball over. And Watson behind this offensive line is very turnover prone. And then we're back to b****ing about playcalling.
As well as Keke. Demaryius having more time to learn the offense is going to help as well. Jordan Thomas has turned himself into a weapon. Even did a decent job on Von Miller.
so if you know all that why are you praising this sht coach when all he does is call the exact run play over and over on basically every 1st down while only generating 1-2 yard or even negative yards.
Glad we won. It was ugly, though. A win is a win. Hit the bye, regroup and get DT up to speed. Bill O'Brien needs to be more on his A game the rest of the season. No way we would have beaten anyone if this were a playoff game.
I guess you must know more than Sean Mcvay. You do realize the ram's offense is centered around the running game/play action right? And they're only the highest scoring offense in the nfl. Cliched, overblown, heap of nonsense? How do you think Will fuller got so wide open?
I was pretty disappointed with the execution after 10+ days off. I understand the desire to run the ball, as the Broncos defense had been gashed on the ground during the season thus far... but the line rarely executed their blocks or held their ground. Its clear that this offense becomes very defensible without the running game executing.... or maybe the O-line didn't need all that time off as they were just getting into a groove (and now they'll have to adjust due to injury). But, the bye week should hopefully yield even more improvement. BOB has shown a semblance of that in his mediocre tenure thus far.
