Feigen saying Rockets preferred 3yr deal, but when announced as 4yr, he goes...oh, they preferred a 4yr deal.
I think he is being brought aboard to provide depth, trade bait in February and for some odd matchups if he is able to hit the three as has been mentioned in numerous articles.
I'm not a fan of the signing, but we have a track record of developing players. We can't just let prospects wait overseas until they're ready, they get ready by playing here. Capela was raw as hell his rookie year and we were trying to compete when we brought him over. Now three years later he's our starting center and probably our most valuable trade piece. That wouldn't have happened had we stashed him in Europe for three years. It's a cheap contract. Zhou's a third string player that will see plenty of time in the Dleague. If he pans out great. If not, no big deal. Not everyone on the roster can be rotation player. If our rotation will ideally have 8-9 players. The other 7-8 spots should be good practice players or projects.
i'm wondering if they gave him MLE money maybe he's not all that bad. especially after they've already been working with him 2 months upfront evaluation
Apparently it was a matter of interpretation of when the CBA rules of age start. Morey tried to argue July 1st when the new salary cap season starts, but the league ruled age requirements for the over-38 rule starts on Oct 1st. Nene's bday falls 18days before that in September. Bet GSW would have got a favorable interpretation. Grrrr
The answer is simple. Les and Morey are going for the gold. Cheap price to buy Silvers refs if you ask me.
Good article: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19782780/why-china-nba-waiting-zhou-qi-houston-rockets
Thx for the reasoning bro..... geez I don't see how you can watch this guy and say he can't play..... it's not like he playing rec ball.... he's playing professionally basketball and Olympic ball, is it NBA level certainly not but at 7'2" with that length, as long as he's not a stiff and this guy isn't at all.... how could you not like him for a project.... and even if he's just here for the Chinese money, how is that a bad thing.... that helps us pay players less because of the potential of Chinese endorsements on the other end.... those are all wins....
I hear what yer sayin... and I hope it works out... but i believe CC 'forced' his way over - iirc.... was Qi? If we're using mle $ to sign him... that's money that could be better utilized elsewhere - esp this year as we pinch pennies for every bit of cap space we can get... Like i say, i hope this work out to our benefit... but the timing just strikes me as a Les attempt to court money outta overseas markets - rather than a move to help the team now.... imo...
Cavs - unlimited payroll. Warriors - unlimited payroll. Rockets sign ZooKey - HARD CAPPED! (Yeah, I have no idea about any of this ****.)
He's saying Morey had to use the Non-Taxpayer MLE. He didn't have to use it. But since he did, we now cannot become a tax paying team,,,,so we are Hardcapped at the tax line apron In short, despite having a triple chin, the CBA won't let Morey have his cake and eat it too.
Good article... I didn't realize that the Rockets had already sent a trainer over to China last year. Seems they see him as a true long-term investment and not just an immediate trade asset.
