Add 40 lbs. of muscle is so wrong. Qi's NBA weapons are his extreme length and his ability to lope up and down the court faster than all this big bigs. And his developing 3-ball. You want to do the Teerence _ones on Qi all over again. Make him some kind of power player. Qi needs to get stronger in his core, maybe add 5 lbs of muscle. But not 40!!!!! That will rob him of his speed and stamina and further hinder the development of his 3-ball. Just the wrong thing to do. Black, Brown, Yellow, or pink and green striped, who cares!?!?#?! Can da dude ball? Dats all that's relevant.
He doesn't need to add lbs, he needs to add inches. Zhou Qi needs to increase his standing reach by another 3-4 inches.
He's constantly being man handled by summer league guards, I don' think 5 pounds of muscle will help him worth a lick when he's trying to defend NBA bigs. He just isn't anywhere near quick enough laterally to guard anything on the perimeter, his only chance to becoming a rotation player is him being able to defend bigs. Unless he can get quicker? Or is it just poor fundamentals? because He's looking like Dragan Bender on Chris Paul against every summer league guard so far.
Trade capella and Gordon and whatever else for Butler. Sign Melo vet min and start Joe Chee in Cappellas spot. Their skill set isn’t that different. By the time the playoffs roll around Chee will have his role down.
I don't know where the problem in bulking up comes from, if Zhou added 20 pounds of weight, and 19 pounds of that weight was muscle (maintaining his 5% BF from when he was drafted), then there is no reason he should lose his quickness, did capela lose quickness when he bulked up? For the first month of the season, it looked like it, but he obviously lost more and more BF and he all of the sudden he was clamping up Stephen Curry well behind the 3 point line. Nothing wrong with adding more muscle, its adding more fat that ruins quickness. Terrence Jones got fat, Capela bulked up. The real problem might be that Zhou was never quick enough to guard 1s and some 2s in the first place. His main defensive weapon is that if he does get beat on drives, he simply extends his tentacle and eats their soul when trying to finish, but there comes a point where not even Average Zhou's long ass arms can compensate for getting beat if he really gets smoked, which is why I thought of his eventual NBA game as "Channing Frye with Hakeem-esque weak side shot blocking"
Then you have no clue, need to choose the white blacker guy and the taller blacker guys first. GSW style. Rockets like the thicc blacker guys.
Zhou should be fine in short bursts vs super slow bigs and slow offenses where his wingspan provides a ton of benefit. Otherwise he's just a complete disaster in any sort of transition game unless I'm way off on my evaluation of him. His hands have looked a bit better and that goes a long way, really enjoyed seeing Melton find him on those high arcing lobs.
