Why? So he can be another role player that scores 6 points in the playoffs? I have nothing against him, he is one of my most favorite people in sports. He has a great attitude but for what he would cost, it isn't realistic. Hell he wanted out of Houston because he didn't get to create..... we have added Chris Paul since then.
i would take him back, still a better on the ball defender than most guards in the league, hopefully. I think he was just going for a big contract and realised he wasn't going to get it on the rockets, but after this surgery, i doubt he'll get paid big. And if we lose eric gordon gonna need another guard.
Would we have anything other than the MLE (if that; I'm no BimaThug) to offer? Would he take that? Would his ego be okay with, say, 24 mpg tops (EGO still being on the team in such a scenario, Harden getting some burn at the 3)? Naturally we could use some insurance at the 1 (I guess Bev and CP3 would be insurance against one another) but Bev might see himself as more than that, recent injuries notwithstanding. Don't want a Mad Max/Clyde scenario. Anyway, who needs a Bev when you have Harden, CP3, and LeBron? Um........yeah.
This postseason tells us we need a backup PG. We only have three and a half guards who can really play. When one is injured, we are down to two and a half. Our back court of Paul, Harden, and Gordon is really good. But there is no backup behind those guys.
I think we might lose Gordon in an upgrade trade. We need 3 and D players off the bench. Perimeter defense is obviously the most important thing as Ryno, Nene, and Joe Johnson were unplayable because of their deficiencies there. Don't have to worry about that with Bev. PJ Tucker got the full MLE last year and only averaged 8.9p/6.5r in the playoffs as a starter, but his impact goes beyond the stats. I think Bev and Luc Mbah a Moute have similar impact when healthy. I hope we have three stars and as many of those kinds of cheap role players we can possibly get. My only other target with MLE would be JJ Redick. I love his shooting, but I'm concerned about him being a defensive liability and his age. He's a better shooter than Gordon, but Gordon is much better on defense and can actually create for himself which is important should injuries strike again. We almost won without CP3 in large part to Gordon's one on one ability. I never had a problem with Bev when he was here. I loved his play and think he really liked it here. He was just upset that we traded him.
Beverley is under contract for one more year(2018-19 season) at $5,027,028. And that whole 'can't re-acquire a player for one year' thing but I guess that expires at the end of the month. Rockets really have nothing to send out anyways.
