Just going back over their respective careers, McGrady seems to have put up a few more assists. Melo was scoring a few more buckets. Looking back on how good McGrady was that first 3 years, basically 24 ppg, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists versus Melo's 28/6/3, which player do you think was better for their respective team, Melo 2010 or McGrady 2005?

    Tracy.
On CF, Tracy is mostly disliked, the Melo love is going strong.
    Fair?
But 05 was his first year in Houston? Correct me if I'm wrong.
He still had that Orlando flash going on, but damn, watching his Orlando highlights compared to now is insane.

McGrady in 2005 was the most gifted and fluid athlete I have ever seen...which is why it is so hard to see him fall from grace like this.

His speed and quickness was incredible.
His hops were out of this world.
His court vision and passing was like a PG.
His handles for that size honestly havent been seen like that since Magic.
His shot was consistent from EVERY spot on the floor and he could rise up instantly off the dribble without changing his form.

Then his heart gave up when his body did. And died.

    McGrady easily.

How come no one ever blames the officiating when Mark Cuban screwed the Rockets out of the Mavs series in 2005? Sure you can blame it on McGrady quitting, but our entire roster was never the same after that series.

Mcgrady wasn't as strong as melo, but that's about it. Tmac did everything as well or better than melo does now. Just as potent a scorer with more moves. Better court vision to go along with better passing skills, way better handles. Just as good a rebounder (if only because melo doesn't assert himself like he should in that area). Better defender as well. Melo has better stats in the clutch but I'd trust 05 mcgrady to make a play in the clutch more than I would trust Anthony.

Just a better player overall IMO

Lets just say that T-Mac in 2005 was Melo in 2010 with added court awareness.

Tmac made involved his team mates more often than Carmelo does now not to mention the fact that Tracy also scored nearly at will. Such a shame we didn't have a better supporting cast around him and Yao. Wish the ref's didn't screw us over either.. oh well..

Exactly. The argument back then was "who is better, Tmac or Kobe?"

I've never heard that comparison for Melo even though Kobe is on the wrong side of 30 now.

T mac was a 2 time scoring champ and won an award for most improved. Melo hasn't really done sh** really. He's just a slightly better version of Antoine Walker

Melo has gotten to the WCF. T-Mac hasn't gotten past the 1st round. Enough said!

Melo advanced in the playoffs? That's something...

But T-Mac was the best player in '05, Melo's not even a top 5 player in the league.
