The clearest divide in this country is not race, gender, religion, age, geography or social class. It's between the fascist/authoritarians who work on behalf of a tiny few interests and those who have a baseline level of respect for democracy and human rights.

It's a sad state of affairs but the reason for this is because political persuasion is no longer about persuading independents or individuals capable of changing their mind. Today, politics is all about "motivating the base". It's all about turning out like minded people to vote. And it's going to destroy the country because this just forces elected officials such as the President to be President of the base, not the country. Trump is unfortunately the first president of this era of being President to not all your constitutes but only people who voted for you. The next President, Democrat or Republican, is going g to continue this trend.
The polarization is almost entirely due to decades of escalating extremism on the right. Its negligence to mention "politics" as being the problem. The problem with our democracy is that its riven with antidemocratic features and has been captured by bad faith actors who exploit those features, and install their own fascist/authoritarian system in its place, using race/patriarchy/whatever as the vehicle
And the leftist dont understand why the moderates are suggesting the Democrats are becoming a symmetrical identity of the Republicans. The odds of having a respectable President after 2020 are rapidly diminishing.

I am ready for it. The days of compromise are over. The left needs to do whatever it can to regain control and install safeguards against every weakness that has been exposed in this system. The left needs an enforcer, not a uniter. The Republican party is no longer a viable political entity. It is an enemy to the people and to Democracy. Its time it is purged.

Well that's sort of where he got the idea. They went low on Kavanaugh and Lindsey Graham kicked them in the face, he's hoping the Democrats could do something similar. Unfortunately they are all too busy going low and the extremists have essentially taken over the party pushing for incivility and other ridiculousness. All that's going to do is ensure they keep losing elections.....but it will be fun seeing the mental breakdowns that some of our friends here on the left have as they lose their minds more and more by the day.
