No, any kind of ideas are good and I appreciate it. And certainly, I'm going to try and get as much information as I can, hopefully insider. But with this thread, I was going for ideas for longer, feature kind of stuff, you know? The kind of enterprise stories that take a little bit of digging and a number of sources... I need 4 or 5 of those, probably, and those are a little different from the day-to-day action and scoop that goes along with the team. Something else I've thought about lately is a major leaguer in a minor league setting... such as Brandon Backe when he goes through his extended rehab, hopefully in June or July. I think there are a lot of feelings and images that come through that transition that might make an interesting read, but it's hard to know. So, yeah... I appreciate the advice, and I'm definitely going to try to do that as best I can. But I need 4-5 bigger, somewhat broader human interest ideas also that involve the team (and may or may not directly relate to the game), and that's what I'm trying to brainstorm here.
makes sense....actually, the major leaguer in a minor league setting (or vice versa) would make for a good running diary if you could get the guy to cooperate.
What about a story that takes us through the thought process/negotiation/etc of dealing with a free agent...maybe compare one they got with one they didnt get.....like a Beltran situation vs a Lee situation...id like to know about the checklist they go over as a group before they decide to pursue or not pursue a guy....or a week long diary of the week leading up to the trading deadline
I really like that idea, and I think it might work. Teams are definitely sensitive to talking about those issues since they can vary from team to team, but I think it might work as a summer story since it's not the time for free agent negotiations... and as a result, people are probably more open to talking about it.
Bumping this to the top... since it's almost the break, any questions for players, Phil, Tim? Obviously, bear in mind that some incredibly harsh questions can't be asked. But within reason, if you guys have questions, I can either do something here or work up a Q&A on the site.
You'd have to displace Mr. Biggio in order to do that. You'd be risking him never returning that man crush you have on him.
did we really have to get rid of billy wagner? seeing him being interviewed at the game made me miss him. he's still doing damn well.
(1) Does Purpura expect any moves to be made at the trade deadline so we can look forward to the future rather than the end of this season? (2) What are the plans for Biggio next season and just how much of a part will Burke have in the organization? obvious questions i guess, but all i could think of
